2nd Note: this picture shows new growth on an ST that almost exclusively produces dark red shoots that purple out before turning green. This new growth has been entirely green from the start.

Osmocote Plus is A long term fertilizer. If you use F/P too seems to me your small tree is getting way too much micro,s. F/P is plenty good by itself. Once your tree gets bigger and blooming different story.. Wash out your mix a couple times than only water when mix feel a little dry. After a couple weeks start out with a weaker F/P mix.

A lot of people use Osmocote Plus and Foliage Pro. Many hobby citrus growers have been told that is the perfect combination as Foliage Pro is NOT complete because it does not have the trace minerals.

Kelly, did you say that you stopped using Foliage Pro or are still using it?

You are only using F.E with the slow release?

There is such a thing as over fertilizing but not enough from what you are saying I think you may need to stop using just the F.E which is not a reliable fertilizer and in which Foliage Pro is)

Many use Foliage Pro in conjunction with the slow release and have no issues even at full strength.

ButI am thinking you thought she was using Foliage Pro at the same time and it says she stopped using it last summer. She said she was only using F.E. I am just making sure that is what she said.

What you said is very vailid and your trees are certainly proof of that)) I envy the beatiful work you do.Over fertilizing is certainly a huge problem with many. I use to do that . If what she said is true, then she is not over fertilizing with Foilage Pro if she stopped using it last summer. If anything , she needs to switch from F.E and use more fertilizer in conjunction with the slow release if the slow release is not enough or not provding all the nutrients in one lump sum.)

Kelly, do you remeber how your trees were doing when you were using Foliage Pro? O r any other fertilizer with the slow release? Did they perform better last year?

I must confess: my trees were very healthy on FP and Osmocote, but slow growing. I noticed an abundance of growth after using the FE, so I switched to using FE exclusively. Now I’m paying the price. I’m going to administer Epsom salt tomorrow - do you guys recommend a foliar spray or root feeding?

Unrelated: my Fresno peppers were looking a bit yellow, so I gave them a dose of Osmocote. They greened up almost immediately and are flowering again :)

Kelly, a higher dose of F oliage Pro at every watering with vinegar in my water always does the trick within weeks. Try that)

Stop using the F.E as a sole provider of nutrients and use your Foliage Pro at full strength or other good fertilizer that provides all the micro nutrients like Denise said and you will see great growth like mines and many others.

Kelly. My trees fed both and sprayed with FE. I do what growth I can for what little sun I get. Not a lot of flowers because of a lack of sunlight, but lots of new growth and green. I pray we get more sun than we’ve been. Wish I had time to take pics of my bigger trees. Next time. )

Greening don’t mean much to me,just a minor temporary fix. A tree treated properly should look a bit like this.If it has no bloom this year wait till next year.

Bob, I treat my trees just fine. You get a hack of a lot more sunlight, a much more earlier start, and warmth than I do. But you are right, if I get a sunny spring next year, maybe more blooms. It seems a few of mine are starting to get more blooms now that there is more sun recently.

Mike, don’t you keep your tree’s in your greenhouse? Mine go outside when temps are in the high fifties and bring them back in the evening for a few days

Citrus need high doses of nitrogen, 25-5-15 especially Meyers, during the summer months and also Osmocote Plus as a backup because the tree’s needs constant supply, no high/low. Soluble fertilizer-that I use flow through my mix easy. In my growroom during captivity in the winter I only us Osmocote.

Btw, FE can also stands for iron, don’t use that too much.
