I'm not having any success with my peach or apricot attempts. Last year the peach put out a lot of healthy, lush growth but this year hasn't leafed out yet, my money is on it's a goner; no fruit last year, though - never flowered. The apricot didn't leaf out this year either (fortunately the apricot was under warranty, so I was able to take it back). Interestingly, there's been a lot of chatter on the news about the orchardists in my state losing almost off of their peach crop, and other fruit crops were affected this past winter, too.

Anyway, I'm thinking that a possible work-around would be grow the replacements in very large containers and pull them into the barn for winter storage -- that way they wouldn't be affected by the howling winter winds, and if any late frosts are predicted in the spring I could just roll them back inside temporarily. It would be kind of a PITA (no, it would definitely be a PITA...) to haul them from the veggie garden where they would be located in the summer (protected from animals) over to the barn but do-able. In the spring I would keep them right outside the barn so I could pull them back inside if needed.

Anyone had success with this in colder zones? I'm willing to put in the effort if I can get some dang-blasted fruit already!
