You chould be able to find a set of bits at the local big box store, or Harbor Freight. Security, or tamper proof, screws.

For anyone who comes across this page while doing a search: I used a Torx security screwdriver bit, size T15, to release the screws. I bought a set made by DeWalt at Home Depot for about $9.

I can't recall what it was on any more, but a friend of mine ran into a screw like that for the first time many decades ago. He actually ground a recess into the end of an allen key to loosen it.

These days it no longer pays to roll your own, since the cheap and cheerful Chinese tool manufacturers seem to have knockoff bits in production within months after new "security" hardware and matching tools are introduced.

You wonder why manufacturers bother with such hardware. All it does is raise the cost of the "secured" item, and owners and repair people still need to get in to fix it anyway. "Security" screws might slow the bad guys down a little, but they won't stop them if they're determined. "This time for sure!" Nope.

davidr, it will slow down the average joe, without a specialty tool kit. but, I hear you.

I was able to get one screw out using a narrow flat screwdriver - thank you Google. I thought about replacing the screws with normal ones, but didn't bother after blocking the hole where the hornet ( !! ) got in and made a nest. It's easier to just hold on to the special screwdriver bit.
