Gray painted kitchen cabinets, help!

We are doing lots of renovating, I'm needy!

Our walls are Benjamin Moore Balboa Mist, so "greige". We have this Quartz countertop being fabricated and white glass subway tile backsplash. Here is a picture of our floor finish as well. We need to choose a warm gray to paint our shaker kitchen cabinets that will go with Balboa Mist and compliment the stone/tile. Any advice much appreciated!

I agree. If it were me (and it's not), I'd pick a warm white for the cabinets, and then maybe rethink your backsplash.

I agree, it's a lot of gray. Grays are SO tricky to mix and match because one will most certainly end up looking too blue, too purple, etc. because of undertones and especially when paired with another gray beside it.

Is white out of the question for the cabinet color? What colors are on the same card as Balboa Mist? Would one of the darker ones work?

Consider SW west highland white or SW shoji white or BM simply white

since balboa mist is a light grey, i think you can do a darker grey for your cabinets. scroll down to the photo in the link below under "balboa mist" section where you see the bathroom wall with balboa mist and wall mirrors/cabinets in darker grey. i think that looks great.

Wow, you guys are the best and so helpful, thank you! We are definitely open to go darker gray for the cabinets (or another color that could work), or white if that's what looks better! The counter top is mostly white, very little veining. The backsplash has already been purchased (white glass subway) and we do love it so that's a keeper (I will try to find a link to it, purchased at Standard Tile in NJ). Seems the wood floor will go with whatever since it's pretty neutral.

Guys, how do you feel about this? https://www.pinterest.com/pin/188869778110185810/

The white/gray combo - not any of the tile.

@Shead - Such a great idea - I just checked on the Benjamin Moore site for what goes with Balboa mist and one they pair it with is Delray Gray. So if we do go the gray route, maybe that's a good idea https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/color-overview/find-your-color/color-a-room/1639/kitchen-8?color=OC-27&combination=1549,2121-70,1614&source=%2Fen-us%2Fcolor-overview%2Ffind-your-color%2Fcolor%2Foc-27%2Fbalboa-mist&room=1639

Delray Gray looks very blue in that picture. I think you need a more brown-based grey.

All of the trim in my home is Balboa Mist, and I have some sunroom doors that I painted Elephant Skin (Behr). They are a nice, deeper grey next to the Balboa Mist, but your lighting could vary from mine.

I personally would go with a white that matches your counters and backsplash, but if you want to go gray I would do a dark gray (darker than your link and the balboa bathroom link) to provide more contrast.

I just went and dug out my BM fan deck and Balboa Mist appears to have a very slight pink undertone. Maybe it's just my lighting....

On the same fan deck card is Cumulus Cloud (BM 1550), La Paloma Gray (BM 1551), River Reflections (BM 1552), and Equestrian Gray (BM 1553). The higher the numbers go, the darker the colors get. They also get more purple as well :(

    Thank you so much!!

what about upper cabinets white and lower cabinets darker gray? I know this is very common today but I love this gray and white kitchen trend! :-)

If you like Balboa Mist why not use it on the cabinets? Try it out on a piece of wood first. It will look different than on the walls.

Way too much gray. And why subway tiles? Hate to tell you but they are already dated and goi out. As are all shelves for upper cabinets. So rethink the back splash. And more balance in the colors.

Walls already painted balboa mist. I don't have all shelves for upper cabinets, I have regular cabinets. We already purchased the backsplash as I do like the large glass subway tile but thanks ‍♀️

We chose Gray Owl by Benjamin Moore for our kitchen cabinets and it looks good! It's very light, looks almost white with a lot of natural light (also check in out in your space first because it can trend blue). I like gray and don't think it would be too much to have gray cabinets and gray walls - you can always change the wall color later (much easier than changing the cabinet color).

I also really like the gray and white/different upper and lower cabinet colors and think that would work well too.

Let me ask you a question.

    What is your favorite color?

What color do you wear the most? Is it gray? Then absolutely paint the cabinets gray. However if your favorite color is something else then paint it a version of that color.

If it's not your favorite color, I can tell you that in five years, your kitchen along with so many others is going to look oh so late teen 2000's. However if it's what you love then you absolutely should go for it.

Have you mocked up a few tiles with the thin set and grout you’re going to use? White glass tiles can often end up looking blue or green and not pure white

Also what are your counters? Have you compared them to your tiles? The whites might not match (plus again, the tiles could end up showing a tint)

Hello! I think your selections look great! Can I ask what finish that is on your hardwood floors (and what species is the floor?) We need to pick stain color for our (white oak) flooring for our new home build, and are looking for a color EXACTLY like what you have! I've been going crazy testing stain colors! Thanks so much for any help you can provide! (I'm in NJ too!)

I would also like to know the color is of your floors. I love them! I would also like to see a picture of the finished project.
