Master bedroom help .. Please help me select bed .. can’t decide !

I recently purchased a new house and just can’t decide on what type of bedroom furniture should I go for. Modern /Contemporary or rustic/traditional.

I do not like cherry brown color. I was looking for a bed with wooden frame and upholstered back and low footboard . I do not have exact measurements but a King with 2 nightstands and dresser would fit perfectly and thats what I am looking for. I am not going to have a TV in my room so should I opt for mirror on dresser ?

It’s for my mater bedroom. I have selected few sets but just not sure if that a good choice. I have been looking online as well as visited some local stores as well. This is my first time on Houzz so if you think some more information would be useful plz let me know. I am attacking few pics of kinda what I saw and what I like as well.

Any suggestions are most welcome.. Please help.

Some bedroom sets I saw .. Should I go for all matching kinds?

A matching set is easier but it ends up looking like a furniture store. No bueno. I feel for you because I was considering three different styles for my master bedroom. You could start with deciding ONE element that you LOVE and can't bear the thought of passing up. Can be the bed, art, or a piece of furniture. That can really help guide you. Another consideration could be ease of maintenance of materials. One of my requirements for my master bedroom re-do was reducing dust mites. That meant no upholstered headboard. Your top two sets would be out of the running for me because they've got too much trim and detail to dust. A third way of approaching this room that could help you would be to consider the mood you're seeking and how you want to describe it. Have you looked at inspiration pictures? (Don't look at too many - it usually confuses rather than illuminates). Try to narrow it down to your five favourite bedrooms. What do they have in common? Look at the elements and see if it's anything that inspires you enough to bring it into your home. One more thing: have you measured everything properly? Tape things out on the floor to get a better idea of scale and proportions in the room. Hope these ideas help you a bit. Good luck!

One thing I would absolutely love to have is a Bed with wooden frame and upholstered back . That is definitely something I am looking to get.

Ok, so that's your starting point. Look back on the ones you picked and rank them. Or do eeny-meenie-miny-mo. Lovely nightstands can be found for all of them. You'll need to figure out measurements and storage needs (drawers, shelf...?). ETA: don't forget budget. That usually clarifies some decisions. :)

Just curious .. what m I missing that I am not getting any replies/answers ?? It's My very first time here so if some info is required plz let me know . Thanks a lot.

You got two replies and you haven't come back with much more info than "a Bed with wooden frame and upholstered back". What do you need to move forward with your room's furnishings?

Trying to short list 2 beds :)

Which two are your least favourite? If someone told you two of these beds no longer existed, which ones wouldn't make you sad to learn this?

Bhavs, the thing is that we can't tell you what you like, kwim?

Sometimes, I can't make a decision to save my life...so I start by eliminating and see where I end up.

Sometimes, I think that if I don't fall in love with a thing...I need to wait.

But either way I am the one who has to like it.

I'll tell you that on Houzz, the major block I see here is fear...And you know what? You know what you like and it doesn't have to be what anyone else likes....Your mouth would drop open at some of the things in my house that I simply adore but are not anyone else's idea of amazing. And I'm happy about that because it means I'm an individual and I march to the beat of a different drummer.

If you're undecided, maybe you don't want either of them? Maybe you don't want to follow any trends, either? After all, you said you only "kind of" like them...

What do you LOVE? Never mind if it's ridiculous or expensive of purple or weird...what do you like? Show us pictures of your dream bedroom (even if you don't think you can achieve it...I bet we can all find out what elements will give you a similar feel)

ETA...My tastes are all over the place...I don't follow any rules as far as all one style goes. I think there are more like me :) than not. After all, who wants a boring house? So don't worry that there isn't a cohesive whole-house look...

You'll be much better off with a basic metal frame for a king-size bed and an upholstered headboard, which is incredibly versatile and won't go out of style like many beds with wooden frames and foot boards will. It will also make it much easier to make the bed and put on bedspreads without a foot board. There's also nothing to bark your shins and knees on.

OK,I hope we have all convinced you not to buy a matching set. Have you narrowed down your bed choices yet? Also, do you have the room measurements?

Yes I am totally convinced not to buy matching set.. but now this project is gonna be tough !

How much furniture do you need?

    @Tartanmeup if I understand your quest correctly - I need a king bed , 2 nightstand , dresser and a mirror

Not that tough to mix and match then. Three pieces essentially with a mirror being an accessory in the room. That can be metallic, black, a fun colour or even frameless. Matching nightstands that "go" with the bed you LOVE, then a complementary dresser. Ingrid's idea of foregoing a wood bed frame is not a bad one. Just a headboard will offer you more design flexibility. But it's YOUR choice.

Ok, so I saw this bed at Dillard’s and both me and my husband love it ... but this one’s a little over our bed budget ! Tried finding it somewhere else online but no luck ! Any one has any second thoughts or any similar stuff u wanna recommend ?

I'll help you look, but I would say you want to google "curved wingback upholstered bed"

As long as you'r not looking for the exact same thing, the above search terms should help. If you're ordering online, I wouldn't have real high expectations...in other words, be okay with it only lasting a few years...if you're not, you're better off seeing what you buy in person at a brick and mortar store...

@Peenydesign .. Firstly thank you so much for helping. I found similar on https://www.horchow.com/Monterey-Queen-Tufted-Bed/cprod131610019/p.prod but same price.

If I don't find something similar I will have another option(that's a backup). I will keep looking today trying to find it !

Bhavs, if you search for just a headboard in that style, you might find something at a reasonable price. Here's one search's results. Perhaps I'm assuming incorrectly that you currently have a metal bed frame?

As of now I had an old Ashley queen bed (Wooden) , which I have put in my guest room. Looking to buy a new king bed and other thing for my bedroom, as of now I just have a mattress on my floor :p

You are awesome : Found the same on hayneedle :

Howz the TOV Furniture brand/ line of furniture . Anyone any ideas ?

That's great! If it's in your price point and a ridiculously close match.....a review lists it as sturdy, return costs are on you, however...

Sign up by emails and get your 10& off...

Here it is on the manufacturers website..

    https://tovfurniture.com/product/finley-beige-linen-bed-in-king-size/

Free shipping there, too. It's 899 there but here's a link for a promo code for 15% off....so the total would be about 765?

Ya totally in my budget ! My overall budget for furniture is < $3500 . So Yes this can be a great fit. I am just concerned about 1 now think since it's all upholstery is it too difficult to clean it (if there is a stain or something) As of now I do not have any kids !

I will start looking at some night stands ! Any suggestions what types should I look for ? Probably a darker color as this is light and should I go for a dresser in the room ?

Well, let's save you some money so that when the bed gets old, you won't feel badly about getting a new one...

When you get it, get yourself a can of scotchguard type stuff (read the reviews to get the best one) and use that.

Usually, the brush head on the vacuum is sufficient to keep it clean.

I can tell that you and your husband love this bed....

Now, I'm one who can't do too much feminine in bedroom furniture unless you live alone. For example I wouldn't do a mirrored nightstand in here...no glitz and glam...

But you're not me. So what do you and hubby like?

I am gonna sit with him tonight and get his thoughts as well on what he thinks about the bed and what type of Night stands would he(we) like !

I totally get you @Pennydesign... on feminine design .. I just hope my husband doesn't change his mind after it arrives ! I have already requested/ordered swatch samples for the same ! I will update you with more info tomorrow .. Thanks a lot for all the help !! Really appreciate .

I like first or third choice

Just throwing this out there as I always do (one of these days someone here will think it's as fabulous as I do and I can stop pushing it!)

Bed on the window wall...wall of drapes.

What's the focal point of any bedroom? THE BED - spend the $$$ there and on the very best mattress so you can sleep well. DO IT even if you have to do without some of the other items until you amass the budget for them. If you both love something; make a way to get it!

Sorry Guys I have been caught up with something urgent ... Will get back on this soon !

What night stand (color) should I go with this bed ?? The color is called burnished bar.. Its like weathered gray !

    last modified: 7 years ago

Wait, what happened to the one above? The one that that Tartan and I worked hard to find for you at a price that you were comfortable with because both of you love it???

I have family staying with me so I still have one another guest room to furnish !!

Are the Bernhardt night stands in your budget? I'd go with one of their options and find a dresser from another line.

No I spend enough on bed so I am gonna need to select something else. These are something I was looking at .. What do you think ? The bed wood color is weathered gray !.. Called as burnished bark (Din find that color on Bernhardt website- I bought from Haverty's)

Should I go for lighter shades or darker ?

Hard to trust colours on a screen. The last one looks like a perfect match, tone wise but who's to say? Not keen on your third one - looks too small and grey. Second option might be quite nice. The colour won't look like a mismatch and the style is similar. You might want to see the bed in your room, in your light, before ordering anything online. Was the wood tone warm or cool?

This is the bed’s color. The last nightstand is light color .. more like nude-> beige.

The bed is more gray weathered finish. The picture is closer look of the wood.(Sorry I am bd at taking pics)

The size is much more important than the finish imho...

So depends on the finished height of the bed including the mattress...

    last modified: 7 years ago

I have calculated that as well as I know the approx size I am looking for . I am confused about the color.. that would compliment or go along with this bed . I have options which are almost same color. But again makes me think it will look all same same !

Usually "almost same color" does not make for a great look. ...but sometimes it can work. What are the options you are considering?

@hollybar I posted couple pics u tread ,,, Still looking for more options .. Feel free to add something you think would love good . Thanks

    last modified: 7 years ago

I'm not a fan of any of those options...for various reasons. Mostly because the style/scale as well as the tone doesn't look like it would compliment the bed.....although without links hard to know. The Bernhardt nightstands in your pic from Haverty's are 40 W x30 H x21 D. That is why they don't look dwarfed by the bed.

Do you have room to do something like the pic Penny posted? Basically a simple open rectangle with a sturdy leg?

Another thing I'd consider is taking a look at kids' dressers/desks. Some are even similar in size and shape to the Bernhardt nightstands.... https://www.perigold.com/furniture/pdp/smiling-hill-4-drawer-dresser-sta6494.html?piid=17238112

Another approach would be multi-tiered side tables, not these exact ones obviously, but again something with enough heft and presence to play nicely with that bed.

What do you all think about this one ? Will it be too dramatic ? The nightstand are also pretty good size as well .

    https://www.roomstogo.com/furniture/product/cindy-crawford-home-calle-vista-brown-dresser/32180123

@hollybar I am not going with open tables as my husband doesn't likes it . So I have to stick with something with drawers.

Well, for me personally, I'm not feeling it. It's too expected, too traditional.

Of course it's a taste thing, so...
