I love your peonies!..my sister had peonies at her previous house..she would cut some for mom and me..I planted 3 peonies last summer..only 1 bloomed..single white blooms..I didn't notice much if any fragrance..bought a peony on clearance last week..it looks just like yours..forgot the name but I have a tag..I hope it's fragrant..

Gorgeous!!! I love peonies too. I have a few and I have been eyeing a yellow Itoh peony I saw at Home Depot.

I kept seeing that yellow Itoh at Home Depot as well and it was very inviting. I have a pink one very similar to the one pictured called Victoire de la Marne. No way to tell if yours is that variety, but it's very similar and heavily fragrant if anyone is seeking one.

Three years ago I got a tiny piece of Green Lotus. The piece was so small I wasn't even sure which way to plant it. I'm not a very skilled Peonist anyway. I waited three years for it to bloom. This year, I could tell it was finally going to do it. So each day around 2:00, I went outside and covered it in case we got hail. I wasn't going down without a fight! I love green flowers, so I was really excited to see it. It is "dainty" and not at all fragrant. But definitely interesting.

I had a peony tree what was very expensive and it rotted off at the graft point near the ground so the single off white/pinkish is from the root stock they graft it to. Our friend had one in their yard before they sold the property that was 6 feet high and the blooms were as big as a dinner plate , The idiot that bought the place just chopped it off after he bought , If Dave had known they would have tried to move it. I guess not all people are lovers of gardens and hosta Mine were from years back from my mother in law and now have 8 different bushes besides the single. One day I may have buy another tree peony. Only thing is I wish they bloomed longer

Beautiful Peonies, I love the scent and color. Mine are very behind this year and still waiting to open. A friend told me to dunk (harshly) the Peony flowers in a water bath with a couple drops of dish soap to get the ants off. This does help before bringing the cut flowers into the house.

I found a tree peony on clearance at Lowe's for $1.00. They were nearly dead but I took a chance and bought 3 of them. One survived and now years later, it is pretty big but not 6' tall. I love it because it blooms earlier than my other peonies and is covered in pink blooms. Wish I could find a deal like that on a Itoh peony.

the names of my 4 peonies..the pink and yellow were Lowes clearance plants..I bought the 2 white and the yellow last year..the pink was only $2.50..it was "half off the yellow sticker day"..anyone have Inspecteur Lavergne?..I hope it's one of your favorites..

Tree peonies have woody stems that stay above ground all year. Their leaves are deciduous and drop every fall. The one I had was over $50 so may be a while before I would pay that again as it takes several years to bloom. Think they are from Japanese or Chinese decent

The peony in my pic is a regular peony. My tree peony was blooming in early May.

I planted some after we moved to Ohio. Then planted a couple more the next year. And then some tree peonies and an Itoh the following year. Bought some cheap ones in the bag at Walmart this year. Was browsing the Peony nursery catalog earlier this year. Probably a good thing I don't live close enough. But my son-in-laws family does! One of the tree peonies bloomed for the first time this year. P. Houki

Heart Strong did not really bloom this year, but it did last year.

I was just browsing the peony sale (33% off) at the local (good) nursery, but I need to be picky and I wasn't familiar with them (yet).

I came in for a break..I looked up my peonies..I have 3 herbaceous and one itoh (the yellow)..the photo on my Inspecteur Lavergne tag shows pink blooms but online the photos and description show dark red blooms..I like both red and pink..I hope it blooms someday..then I'll know..

A comment about the above comment on the tree peony that rotted above the graft. Always bury the graft on tree peonies so the joining is at least six inches or more below the grounds surface. You want roots to come out of the stem not out of the nurse root.

^^^^ maifleur -- aHA!!! Excellent point, which I did not know! (Not that I presently have any tree peonies, but one never knows what the future might bring.)

Maifleur I discovered this after the fact but was too late by then . I will remember this as an expensive learning experience and possibly why mine were smaller then Dave's( our friend) tree. Possibly because it was younger but more then likely was taking after it's root stalk parent. One day I may try again seeing I have enough hosta for now lol

Almost it is also possible that your friend purchased one that was growing on its own root. Rick Rogers used to sell all of his without the nurse root which is why they were a minimum of three times more than any other provider.

Just got a new tree peony last year but it's planted too deep so it has to be moved later this year to a spot which is sunnier and situated so it's not planted too deep. I have lots of green leaves but not one bloom.

miles if you can see any of the stem on a tree peony it is not planted too deep. It may be that if you planted it only last year the stems are not developed enough to have bloom buds. They are not like some herbaceous and need to be planted two inches or less under the soil a minimum of four but even better most of the stem.

Peonies of all types need time to adjust to where they are planted. Even though tree peonies can have blooms the first year that is very very unusual. I have about 25+- of them. The bloom bud stems were developed within the small almost invisible bud on the side of the stem several years ago. In my garden I start seeing next years bloom buds start forming toward the end of June and early July. If your tree peony did not have secondary stems at that time last year it is very unlikely that you would have had any blooms this year. Peonies of all type bloom on their own schedule and moving them around on your whim increases that schedule.

In my area KCMO if I would plant tree peonies in open sun rather than the various shaded spots I would have one day of bloom then petals on the ground the next when our temps go from 50 to 90F in a days time.

I do but I do not post them on here as changing the resolution on my computer is just too weird. You can go to fb and do a search for peony groups and you will find lots of pictures of many different types. I like the Swedish Peony Society site for pictures of peonies that are primarily from parts of Europe but I think there must be twenty or more peony sites including several of the clubs.
