Need help deciding between two tile layouts, both imperfect

Hi,

I have a small kitchen with just 20sq ft of backsplash. The kitchen is sort of open, the backsplash would die at an open wall. Both walls have a backsplash of about 10sq ft. My tile just barely isn't long enough to cover the full width on one wall and requires either a small 3/4" cut at one end, or having two equal sized half-cuts at the ends.

My thought is that the little 3/4" cut on the end basically just looks like trim, won't see it that much since it's in the far corner of the kitchen. Where the equal cuts on the sides seems more noticeable, I don't personally like it but I don't know what's more acceptable. If we use an extra 1/8" of grout spacing we can get it to all lines up but my tile can work with minimized grout which I prefer.

Option A??

OPTION A -- 3/4" Wide Tile at far right on south wall

OPTION B -- Start tile with a half cut, end with a half cut

Hi all. Grout isn’t in yet but wanted to share installation pictures. I think we made the right call. Can’t really notice the small tile on the far right of faucet. Color and texture came out nice. Really happy we opted for under cabinet outlet plug molds. No holes in the backsplash. Going to go with a dark gray grout.

Are you accounting for 1/8" grout lines between tiles?

Doing minimized grout lines. So just 1/16”

Your tile is so pretty! I think stove side looks just fine. Hard to see what’s going on at the other side, but I’d avoid the 3/4” sliver and opt for the other one. I hope you’ll share photos when it’s done. Good luck!

very pretty tile. I prefer the more symmetrical layout. Especially with the stacked look. The other seems wrong with a sliver on one side.

Ah thanks for the complements on the tile :) we were really unsure about it since it was a little darker than we were planning. The tile is Garden State Tile Slash series 3x12 Robins Egg Blue

We used a similar tile (Daltile Artigiano) and had a similar issue with the layout. We opted to install the tile vertically which fit perfectly—no cutting. It also looks very nice and a little different. If you do a horizontal installation I would do the symmetrical design.

Will you have anything in the corner...utensil caddy? Plant or basket?

It doesn’t appear that a person would ever be lined up looking at the entire wall symmetrically so I would probably go with full tile on the open end. But really, it will look fine either way.

The stove wall looks fine as you posted . For the sink wall are you going to the edge of the wall or ending with the wall cabinet ( it looks like it stops short of the wall end )? How does that change your layout? I am normally not a fan of a little cut tile at the end but I would assume there will probably be something sitting there - a coffee maker or toaster and that would mostly hide. that
