Does your kitchen preference match your clothes?

I enjoyed reading Cpartist thread about kitchen lookalikes and realized that although my kitchen is white, it unconsciously matches my fashion sense.

Does your kitchen reflects what you like in clothes?

I‘m known for wearing black mostly then pop of very strong primary colors some days. I have 30+ black business suits when you look at my closet and it’s punctuated by red or jewel tones here and there.

To the casual eye, the black suits on the rack seem identical but the lines and details are where they differ. Every single suit is radically different in cuts, details and the illusion they do to my body. My clothes can also be out there design wise with severe cut, huge sleeves, slits (long before it was fashionable on the red carpet) and wild pattern on my dresses. That‘s why I fell in love with my Fusion and designed around that one stone (sigh).

My suits ranged from junior high school to 15 yrs ago. I stopped buying clothes when I got married. I spent my energy on cleaning up his style.

Despite how old my clothes are, I get compliments and asked about the designer or season. People are shocked to hear decades old then assumed I bought vintage for a trend vs being the original buyer. (I survived the 80s with only one suit with large shoulders. All the others from that time can’t be traced. In fact, my dusters from that era has come back in style twice.)

I’m hoping my kitchen will have such longevity. It’s monochrome in its whiteness but I was obsessed about the functionality so it has these details all over like a pull out table for wheelchair or the pull out tea cart (just like the details on my suits). It even has a pop of red via one of the ovens like my closet. The countertop has huge movements like the strong patterns I wear in my dresses.

The goal: quiet elegance with one fabulous detail. That fashion preference translates to neutral kitchens without a zing leaves me cold.

What’s your fashion style? does your kitchen match?

I love hippy and hobo fashion but don’t wear it because it doesn’t flatter me. I notice that I like kitchens that has that sense but only to visit.

My clothes are all over the place. My kitchen has light hardwood floor, white cabinets, silver metallic painted glass backsplash and Cambria Roxwell counters which are black, gray and white with sparkles and a bold swirly pattern. Bathrooms are same colors as the kitchen. The rest of the house however is bright colors everywhere, red rug in living with lots of bright colored art, purple rug in dining with more brightly colored art, all other rooms also. For some reason, I like the kitchen and baths to have a more cool, clean look.

I wear mostly neutral jersey skirts with bright solid-color T-shirts. Most of my skirts are black or charcoal, but I've got a navy and a khaki in there. Lots of pink and purple shirts, with some teal, blue, and red. A few tie-dye. Not a lot of other prints.

My kitchen is also neutral on the bottom and bright on top. Black-and-white floor, white wainscoting, chartreuse walls. Not colors that appear in my wardrobe (I have some white, just not in skirts/pants, but I look terrible in chartreuse). As I said on the other thread, my kitchen is a spring but I am a summer.

I used to have, and will again if they come back in fashion, a lot of brightly patterned ethnic skirts. The closest thing in my kitchen is this pendant lamp. It's not obvious from the photo, but the inside of the lamp is painted turquoise. I also have a bunch of cheerfully-colored artwork, now that I think about it.

I definitely like similar colors for clothes and home, and both tend to be low maintenance cause I’m lazy. I’m a red head and love to wear and use green and turquoise and red and orange, and don’t do warm pastels-pink etc-or cool whites well. Our remodel has original red oak floors (bring on the orange!), some warm grey, or pale blue, or aqua walls, and a vivid green stove. The colors make me happy.

Nope, not at all. My kitchen is white, turquoise, and light wood, but I have pale skin with rosacea and long straight silver hair, and light colors do not look good on me. Most of my tops are black, gray, navy, peacock blue, eggplant, or deep red (my favorite color, although it doesn't go great with my face). In winter I wear jeans or leggings and tall boots or clogs, and in summer I wear light colored linen pants. My clothes are rarely stylish or eye-catching, although some of my knee high boots (love, love, love) are pretty awesome, and my hair gets some notice. My kitchen integrates modern and vintage styles, and the turquoise back-painted glass backsplash has a pretty big wow factor. I was braver with my kitchen than I am with my clothes. Maybe I like my kitchen to get noticed, but not my person?

I like a wide variety of kitchens and I wear a wide variety of clothes, though most of my wardrobe falls into the tailored, preppy classic category- lots of Brooks Brothers & Max Mara with a good deal of old Oilily (very boho Dutch brand.) My current kitchen is white slab cabinets, soapstone counters and apple green painted backsplash with a black range. I didn't design it, but I didn't change anything design-wise about it.

Agree! My fashion taste and colors matches my home decor and kitchen. Neutral with pop of color.

My decor is as unique as my dress. Fearless and bold.

I’ve realized that the kitchen I’m designing for our new house is very much a reflection of the colors I wish I could wear. I love layered, textured neutrals with cream, black, and all tones of brown. I still remember a cream cashmere coat one of the female characters on ER wore - I longed for that coat. Oh, and Rene Russo’s wardrobe from the Thomas Crown Affair. It seemed so unfair, as both women were redhead like me, but black and cream both make we look washed out and, quite frankly, ill. Sigh. Our kitchen design is for black leathered countertops, cream and natural white oak cabinets, and mid-brown hardwood floors. Basically, the clothes I wish I could wear in decor. And I tend to like clothes that are *almost* boring basics, but with little embellishments. A subtle ruffle here, a colored lining there, a touch of lace at the hem, etc., and I think that’s very much reflected in the styles we’re choosing, too.

Much of the rest of the house is done in teals, blues, and greens, which are what I wear and love.

I am more about the materials and cut of my clothes than the colours, per se. Details matter. & I love a good, well crafted accessory. In a way my kitchen is similar. Hmmm, my kitchen HAS probably worn more prints, 'cuz wallpaper ch-ch-ch-ch-changes, than I do.
