Kathy, I have one that looks very much like the one you show up front there, I haven't been able to get a handle on its ID either. I rather like the shade of yellow and the blush of the leaves, and it has proven to be a vigorous grower. Mine came in a grab bag with 4 different varieties labeled as "Emerald Isle" and when I contacted the supplier they gave me a very wishy washy answer about using a 'playful name' for the assortment but never identified the 4 varieties in the assortment, even a hint would have been helpful. I figure it's an old standby that's been around for ages but since it's not an eye grabber it isn't around much anymore. Unfortunately.

just a guess..your hosta reminds me of my Gold Drop..although mine could be? smaller..I love the blue and yellow combination..I would have way too many blue hydrangeas if I lived in a warmer climate..

peren..as usual..your Gold Drop has more blooms than I've ever had on mine lol..I love that hosta..I should give it it's own pic..I have a lot of "group shots" and not enough "featured shots"..it's been raining all day with no sign of stopping..maybe I can get some pics tomorrow..

You should highlight it with it's own pic nw! GD was one of my first decades ago and I still love it too. I am going to move some of mine so that the form shows more clearly.

Yes Pieter, if this is the one you have it is not an "eye grabber" but it is extremely charming to say the least. It is a shame when some of the older varieties are not widely available.

I found a Hosta in my lists that was categorized as lost to voles. It was Gold Edger. I can see how a row of these might edge a bed. I’m going to the internet for some info.

Looks exactly like the pictures so I guess voles didn’t eat it. Anybody have one that they can corroborate?

peren..I get what you're saying about enough space between plants to show the form more clearly..I leave space but it's usually not quite enough.. :-(

Great that you found it Kathy. GD & GE look so much alike. I went on Compare Hosta Library Pictures to compare the two and was surprised to see my pic of Gold Drop the third one down! It was a pic taken a few days after the one I showed here. I am not Anderson 77.

Laurie, indeed you're not "Anderson 77", it was Ken Anderson who registered it in '77. Drop Bill and Carol a line and get them to replace the question mark with your name seeing it's clearly your picture. Whoever added that picture to the HL, Bill or Bob Axmear (RIP), had obviously lost track of the name of the photographer, Bill won't hesitate to give credit where credit is due.

Still not quite sure if what I have is GD or GE but at least I'm zeroing in, the colour of the flowers will tell the story, mine are just starting to bud up. I'm leaning towards it being GE...

Well, I don’t know what hosta that is, but the contrast of yellow and blue is spectacular.

Just for fun I looked up the registration details for both varieties, check the details in the links on each of the names. 'Gold Drop' is the smaller one of the two and has a lower vein count, 5, as opposed to 7-8 for 'Gold Edger'. Kathy, do a vein count and measure the leaf to confirm you indeed have 'Gold Edger'. I just did and feel quite comfortable to be able to finally put a name to my NOID: 'Gold Edger'.

Thanks Pieter. It is odd since I never submitted a pic but I guess someone thought it a good representation.

My plant has 7-8 vein count and leaves that are 3.5 x 4.5 inches. i think that’s confirmation for Gold Edger.

I’ve always admired Blue Cadet but don’t have one yet. I can see how styles have changed to more exciting hostas . Sometimes boring and normal is ok. I wonder if anyone has a border of Blue Cadpet alternated with its progeny, Gold Edger?
