your Little Treasure hostas are adorable..I had a few Little Treasures but they died..they were planted in a bed along the west side of the house..the big trees 12? 15? ft away keep it shady..I don't quite understand why the plants in that area do poorly but I've planted several things that failed..boxwoods..variegated vinca..several different hostas..ferns..it couldn't just be shade..I have shade everywhere and my plants are fine..

I had a LT that I absolutely loved. It lived for about 3 years and then came up with only a leaf or two. Didn't come up the next year. I got Hideout, which is really similar but has twisty leaves. So far, it's vigorous and adorable.

In the second photo I love the combo of the Ligularia leaves with the Hosta. Great contrast.

The two "pops" in the back corner is my fave heuchera RIO. It shows great colours, varying colours ,all through the season.

Good pick up rockdale! My recent obsession re all things gardening are Japanese Maples. As our property is small I seem to be able to squeeze more in if I put them in pots. The one in question I purchased just a few days ago and potted it up ASAP. It is the JM SHAINA. (I am a bit nervous thinking ahead to when I bring 5 or is it 6 potted maples into the garage come November.)

Ha. Was hoping to hear “it overwintering in the box I don’t need to do anything”:) I know the pain. I am looking for alternative solution for overwintering my 4 Japanese Maples. I have to bury the pot into ground every fall and I am getting tired of digging. :) Because of the burying- all of them are in the black nursery pot and I really dislike the look of nursery pot. It is hard to find a size matched pot for the tree too. Was thinking of building wooden plant box and saw yours - did you build that box yourself? Even you just roll it into garage, it looks pretty heavy to me. Thanks

Definitely something to consider rockdale. And so this leads to a question I have regarding border plants for my situation.

On the left you see the continuous border of LT down to the chain link gate in the fence.

And then the same edging (stone) starts on the other side of the same gate and continues up to the top (better seen in the picture below)

What say you re possible border plants on the right side? Does it "need" to be also hosta LT to "match" the side or do I have flexibility to choose another perennial plant eg heuchera or...

What are your thoughts?

I purchased them at Costco (Canada).

(As of now I am able to carry the wooden box, planting medium and tree without help).

Steve, I still havent decided on the other side. (I wanted to plant RIO heuchera as I have two elsewhere in the garden that I have really enjoyed the past few years but I have been unable to source them this season)

Rouge, I just checked out Rio, wasn’t familiar with it, very nice. Just curious,are you growing any Green Spice heuchera? It does marvelously here and it’s a beauty.

I think this idea of a border with a small hosta looks fabulous! I say plant what you like on the other side. I was thinking of something similar for a front bed that is going to get A different look. I was thinking of Dividing my tiaras and placing them at the front of a bed with larger hostas. Good luck with your decision!

Rio is on the top of my Heuchera want list but I haven't found it yet either. Although, I'm not really looking that hard either.
