Then some cheap carpet to provide a walking surface.

I agree since moisture isn’t a problem a good indoor out door rug with the plastic under it should do the trick.

I was about to suggest a form of oil. I've heard of rammed earth flooring (in a situation where the owners had SEVERE formaldehyde allergies). I believe linseed oil was used to keep the earth 'packed'. It would be sprayed over top the dirt in a VERY fine spray.

Maybe put DG over the dirt?

Decomposed granite. You can get it like sand, compact it and get it wet and it sort of turns into a hard crust. Its usually used outdoors.

Thanks everybody! I tried the linseed oil but can't get a fine spray with my sprayer. Might try some other variants. For now, I am putting down old plywood and tarps for the space I will be using. Problem is that most of the area under the house is too low to be used and it would be a hassle to cover that area just to keep the dust down. I looked into DG, but that would be a lot of work, crawling up under the house to where it's has just a foot or clearance. I'll let you know what works best. Thanks again!

reading this old thread I'd be extremely concerned about laying material over the dust and inadvertantly creating a space where mice and other alive things would want to burrow in. If I needed storage space I'd invest in plastic boxes that close tightly to prevent anything getting into them. For larger pieces I'd rent storage.

I ended up just using old plywood and tarps. Since there is no wind, the dust doesn't seem to be stirred up to settle on the stuff I have stored.

In my infinite wisdom I was going to suggest just tarping it. Glad it’s working.
