Mama Africa rose

Mama Africa (SPEresso/Espresso), a florist rose bred by Jan Spek (netherlands, 2005) and introduced in South Africa by Ludwig's Roses (2009). This rose has a very unusual brown burgundy color blooms that last for a few weeks on a bush. I was lucky to get this rose from Anja Taschner of Ludwig's Roses when she opened a branch in Arizona for a short time. This rose is very healthy and repeats well in my garden. Because of the weather, one of the petals even has two different colors and makes the bloom even more special. Helen

Wow that's a neat one! I would love to have yours. The colour tones are so cool! I remember Bethnorcal had this one in her alphabetical lists or unusual rose category on the rose gallery thread. When she used to post here. I remember that this one stood out to me for these reasons. I'm sure it would be a terrible rose in my climate. But yours looks beautiful!

When I saw the two different colors of the petal in Mama Africa, it reminds me of an extremely rare striped rose from Paul Barden called Striped Jocelyn, see images below (photo credits by Paul Barden) . Helen

HalloBlondie, I hope Paul still has Striped Jocelyn. He said in his blog that it's very hard to propagate Striped Jocelyn. It's so beautiful that I have thought about growing Jocelyn to see if I got lucky and might have its sport, but I didn't do it :)

Thanks Ingrida, in my small garden I try not to have too many similar roses that the reason I like unique roses. Naming photos this way help me remember which rose is which even after a few years.
