I would replace it with a door that matches the surround better.

Glass on top half and maybe some iron accents over the glass.

HI, if is solid wood don't replace. I would repaint door in a green palette color, to enhance your plants.

If it's a wood door you can strip it down and repaint. I actually don't mind the look of a 6 panel door painted black on your house. It's a classic look and your architecture is also classic. I would, however, remove the kick plate and perhaps replace the lockset with one in a satin Chrome colour (so it visually stands out). If you go with a new door, I'd go more modern and clean lines with little embellishmen to go with your style on the inside of the house. But, you should find out from your local door suppliers if you can just replace the door or if you have to replace the sidelights as well. A new door with sidelights will be more than one grand.

I would (or pay someone to) strip the door to it's natural wood and then finish it in some way to make it impervious to the elements.

Remove the current kick plate and replace it with a beautiful brass one.

Replace the current door hardware with brass hardware.

If the current hardware was brass and just painted over, just strip it.

Get marvelous sidelights that match the door hardware.

And a house number big enough to be seen from the street.

I don't really understand those huge spade-shaped bushes.

Now, I am a trouble-maker.

I would do some sort of irreverent topiary, a la Edward Scissorhands.

Or Ladew Topiary Gardens.

But if not, then just cut them down to a size and shape approaching a boring normalcy.

Now they look like they have gigantism.

I would also want some color variation in the planting.

Even if you don't want to mess with flowers per se, than how about some foliage with different shades of green, different leaf size and shapes?

Those exacting pom pom shapes that line the walk are so excruciatingly perfect that everyone would be nervously checking the shine on their shoes and the fold on their handerchiefs before entering your house.

If you lived in a warm climate, trimming those green spaldings back and interspersing them with white landscape roses would look lovely, welcoming, and still somewhat traditional and in line with the overall look of your house and give you blooms for most of the year.

Knock on it. There is a distinctive sound of wood v. metal door, as metal is "hollow," filled with styrofoam (usually).
