Sir Grout... worth it?

last modified: 7 years ago

I got a quote for sir grout to re-grout my shower tile And to seal my kitchen counters.

Shower/bathroom is Statuary Marble. Counters and backsplash are Carrera Marble. its a lot of $$ in my opinion - but willing to do it if it works! Our shower grout perpetually looks terrible. would love to hear any experiences with this company and their products. I think this is a local franchise so more about product and results and less about the actual humans doing the work. Thank you!!!!

What is the reputation of your local Sir Grout? I'd start with that. And how long have they been in business? And what crew are they going to send out?

Thanks for responding! The reviews online a great. That said, they are all immediately after service. Id like to hear from someone who had the work done 1,5, or even 10 years ago to see how it’s holding up!

@millworkman ok, good to know! Our grout is perpetually black or pink with mold. No matter how much we clean it. Plus, being marbl its hard to find a good grout cleaner that’s compatible. They say their epoxy product means mold will just wipe off..‍♀️

Pink is your beauty products and skin scale. Black mold in your shower is NOT a good sign and "Can" reflect organic adhesives , failed waterproofing and signal wall cavity mold , poor ventilation etc and should not be seen in any shower.

Millworkman is correct about corners and that alone gets the grout cleaner dismissed, you certainly dont want to cover black mold with epoxy anything. I would suggest consulting with A vetted marble restoration and tile shower pro. Stay away from gimmick cure all companies.

Ok, thanks! Any referrals in the chicago area?

Refer back to your pictures of during construction to the source of your problems. And inadequate ventilation is a big contributor here. A poor band aid after the fact is not worth spending a dime to have done. Not when it doesn’t address the source of the issue at all. And it’s incorrect technically on multiple fronts.

Made an appointment for today at 12:00 pm. No show, no call. Now they are telling me they forgot or something must of happened in their system. Next available appoint for a quote will be two weeks from today. Well that's a red flag for me. Looking now for another company.

FYI We read the 5 star reviews and were super excited for their help. These reviews are misleading. The team simply walked out on the job with no proper explanation other than not feeling it. TLDR: this is a low integrity team.

I flew across the country to support my dad as he was receiving medical attention. It took a lot of time and energy to be present for their help.

Here’s what happened. Chris and his colleague showed up late. Three minutes into our conversation, Chris asks about payment. It was disconcerting as the job had yet to start and the payment was already arranged. Nevertheless, Chris and his colleague start setting up and we start gently asking questions about their process. It was our first time experiencing their work and we wanted to learn more. In the middle of setting up, Chris went outside. When he came back inside, he shared that he spoke to his boss and that they will leave the job. They didn’t think we were a fit.

I was shocked and expressed frustration. He had already came by in the past and approved the job. I had traveled across the country to be there. I asked for an explanation as to why. I was blown away: he had no explanation to share other than repeating himself. At one point, as I tried to understand why, he expressed something along the lines of not feeling it. I asked to speak to his boss and he refused to share his/her name or his/her contact information. As I expressed my frustration, he started to ignore me, packing his tools, chiding me for being frustrated for him leaving the job. This is backed up by video footage, including an apology—right before leaving—from Chris for wasting my time.

It seems that our basic questions triggered a fear for them of losing payment. Thus, they decided to abandon ship instead of showcasing integrity for respecting their commitment. Afterwards, I called their office, sharing the story with a manager named Jenn. She said they’d call right back. It’s now more than 24 hours. No call back.

I’m sorry to say, this is a low-integrity team. If you’re willing to take that risk, buyer beware. They may respond to this review, trying to mischaracterize our frustration as a turn-off to them. I want to be clear: we were kind and courteous in welcoming them to our home. We simply needed help and were willing to pay. We lost time, energy, and money to accommodate them being there. They came and left with little compassion for us. This is the last group of contractors you want in your home.
