just a suggestion, but what if you painted them white? It might make the room look a little lighter, too :)

I agree, paint them white (or whatever wall color you choose, that will make them "disappear" )& of course the desk too. Lucky you for all that storage!

Thanks for the input. Yes white would be lovely and bright! I wouldn't mind painting them because i now feel restricted by the colour scheme. Any tips on painting the louver doors? Do i need to sand them first? Sorry, terribly ignorant!

HI -Cheryl - (my daughters name too !) They don't really look dated to me and that mahogany look has come back . But I think it's the contrast that is making them look out of place or dated . You could keep them as is and paint the walls a color that is closer to the wood tone , that would help . I think I would (spray) paint them a color that is the same as the wall color you choose. All the same ,so they will blend in and this will also make the room appear larger and modern by cutting the contrast . This will also make the floor stand out more . Right now the floor is just there , kind of lost against the wood cabinets . A nice warm white or cream would look wonderful . Congrats on your new place Cheryl !
