Genus Perlesta seems close, but there are a lot of look-alikes.

New to identifying insects,but have always loved them. Insectidentification.org shows only the giant stonefly for georgia. The one in your link looks much more like it than that. I read these can indicate fresh water nearby. Probably my goldfish pond.

Yay, I was just coming back to say that it is a stonefly of one kind or another. I doubt very much that a stonefly would lay her eggs in a goldfish pond. They are found in clean, fresh, creeks or rivers......as long as the waters are pretty fast moving.

The adults have wings and can fly to wherever they want.

Yes, your stonefly is not one of the Giants. In the bugguide link above, click on the data tab that is above the image and the taxonomy trail. That shows the Genus is adjacent to Georgia; then clicking the next upstream taxomony item (Acroneuriinae), you get Georgia included. The ranges are undoubtedly larger as these maps only include photo submissions to bugguide.
