Looks like an Ornamental Plum tree.

Agreed. Probably one of the Purple Leaf Plum Trees (Prunus cerasifera) sold primarily as ornamentals, though some of them produce small (1") fruit that is considered edible.

I'm glad you figured it out. I like Purple Leaf Sand Cherries but don't think they'd be a good match for my clay soil.

They do well in my neighbor's yard, I hope I have same success. I really admired them in the early spring. I also planted a Korean Spice Viburnum , it also blooms early spring. Will go well with my red buds. I like early spring bloomers, it means we've made it through another winter.

Well ............ I made a mistake planting both the Sand Plum and the Korean Spice. They are too close to the north side of my stockade fence and aren't getting enough sun.

Notice I took a pic of my neighbor's Sand Plum and its close to the north side of the fence. So I took a clue from that as to how to plant. But I'd forgotten that when that was planted, the people living there had a chain link fence.

Sooo, I'm wondering what my odds are of transplanting the Sand Plum and the Korean further away from the fence ? I know this is the time of year to do that. They've not been in the ground that long.

If they are still dormant, moving them now should be fine. Be sure to prune them back some to make up for the root damage/loss of roots that will occur with transplanting.

Well, that may not be necessary cuz they're not in really good shape. They got no sun last fall, when the sun got low in the sky about Labor Day on. The Sand Plum got real leggy, trying to reach up for sun. But I'm gonna give it a try later this month. I spent $35 each on them, I hope they make it.

And I'm havin second thoughts if this is necessary. I took this pic of the shade line today at about 10:30 am. Notice where the bermuda stops. When I planted late last July , I tried to get as close to the fence as I could, but yet still where the bermuda got sun. Cuz I thought the Sand Plum and Korean Spice would be taller and would get more sun in that position than the bermuda.

Maybe I need to give this another growing season ? Would I still be able to move them this time next year ?
