Carpet doesn’t have many fans here, so you’ll probably be told to use wood with area rugs. Carpeting now is very much about the materials, color, pattern and stain resistance. There are lots to choose from and I don’t think “trend” is an issue. I put in a Mohawk low pile, dense plush two years ago that is serving me well. I purchased from a flooring only store and my installer had over 30 years experience. I’m very happy with using carpet for my particular home.

The trend is no wall to wall carpet at all but in a master I can see the reasoning I guess I have not had a client want carpet anywhere for probably 10 yrs for sure.

I should have said that we have wood floors in most of home, except for carpeting in bedrooms. I too would prefer wood floor in master, but, our 30 year old wood floors are of the medium oak vintage, and I’m so “over” oak/color. I hesitate to add more of what I dislike, hence probably going to carpet again. I have considered a hard surface floor that would be a mix of wood tones that would compliment the oak hallway leading to that bedroom, but wondered if that could be acceptable. Thoughts?

If you are considering carpet, I would look at Masland. They have a nice range of textured cut and loop options. I prefer 100% wool as it is the most dirt resistant and cleanable.

Personally I like a plush. They are warm and soft on the tootsies. I like nylon because the individual fibers are durable, crush resistant, and non absorbant thus easy to clean. I just use hot water. I don't think there is a trend in carpets. One of the pros of carpeting. It is nether in or out of style. The last trend I remember is the 70s shag. It just depends on what you like.
