This is growing and spreading on the edges of the lawn.

That looks like a liquet invisibilia... and a nicely grown one too!!!! just be careful or it will take over the lawn.

I can see the photos. There are possibly two different species in the two pictures. I've never seen poison ivy in person but no. 2 could be it.

Yes. Whereas the one in the first shot looks like it could be a Ginseng Family plant. Or maybe a carrot relation.

i dont see PI in the second pic.. as i know it ... but i am sure there are variations on the theme ...

in the pix at the link ... my version has leaves that are different on each side of the leaf .. i dont recall the term for that ...

Carol; do you think both photos show poison ivy? I had thought the second photo juvenile and the first photo full grown.

No, as with the other comments, we know the second one IS poison ivy. The first is definitely not.

First one almost looks like a hickory seedling. Got any nearby? Squirrels plant them.

I second Aegopodium for the 1st one? I also had poison ivy that looked like that.

I considered Aegopodium for no.1 but decided not. The texture looks wrong. But I would like to see the stems to be sure. And a photo from further back showing the habit.

Is it a vine? It looks a lot like Poison Ivy, unless there is another vine that looks like it. 'Leaves of three, let it be' is the old saying.

The second one as been established as PI. But the first is something different.

There are more than three leaflets on the plants in the first photo. NOT poison ivy!

Second IS poison ivy.

Could the first be Aralia nudicaulis? A photo from the side or a closeup of the stem could show this.

A nudicaulis crossed my mind, macranthos, but since I've never seen that personally I couldn't come to a conclusion.

Seeing a large patch of aralia in an undisturbed site is quite a sight! Hopefully you can make a trip to the Appalachians in spring some time soon. Seeing whole valleys filled with trillium and mertensiana is something else.
