Boys bathroom design help

My son has picked out some things he would like included in his bathroom style. This is new construction and the only item purchased is a brushed nickel faucet.

He picked out Orb lighting, and a nautical style round rope hanging mirror. He wants a navy blue, shaker vanity.

Dilemma-what should I use for the hardware and other fixtures in the room?
Does ORB mix well with navy blue? Or the BN faucet?

Nothing is purchased yet so I can change some things, but he really likes the lighting and mirror, so I’m trying to design around that.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Do these things work, what would you do?
Thanks.
Here are some photos.

The light does come in another color, but that is what he’d like. Also thought of a gray vanity if the blue didn’t work?
Is it ok to mix orb n BN for everything else?

Your son has excellent taste! The mirror is great and while the idea of a navy vanity is good, the one pictured appears too dark a shade of navy. Have him take a look at Sherwin-Williams 6517 Regatta. Does the light fixture come in a brass finish? Brass would look great with the navy. If he's okay with brass, then you could change the faucet to a brass colored finish also. Or change the faucet to a dark bronze that works with the light fixture. The hardware on the vanity should also match the faucet, and I'm hoping he chooses brass.

    Thank you both.
No, he picked the lighting inORB first and then the other items.
Too long a tragic story, but we are allowing him this one little thing to select his “bathroom” to help ease some difficulties. Therefore, it’s a little hard trying to combine his ideas to be doable. I’m trying, with you all’s help.
    Thank you for the suggestions.

I love the things you've picked out. For hardware, we just did our bathroom and I purchased our pulls and lights from Amazon. I purchased (don't laugh) at least 3 sets of sconces to find the ones that were the nicest setup for our bathroom. Shipping is super fast with Prime, and I did my returns at a local Kohl's store So, you could get a couple of different sets of knobs or pulls to look at with your vanity to see what you like the best. I am OK mixing finishes, but would probably stick to 2 and not 3, so if it's ORB and brushed nickel, then so be it. I also don't mind dark on dark with ORB on a navy vanity, but you should look at it in person and see if you like it, so maybe get ORB and SN pulls and compare in person. Good luck and enjoy your new bath!

Note that we did chrome faucets because they are durable and easy and I think they go with everything, but I love ORB too, and it's very masculine.

What color for the walls? White? I think the ORB will be fine with the navy--the light and mirror will have the wall color as background; if you do an ORB faucet, it will be backed by the counter color, not the vanity paint. I probably would not do the cabinet knobs and pulls in ORB because of the lack of contrast.

I think your son has good taste. I like the nautical elements; it seems just the right amount without being overly theme-y.

Is there a tub or shower in this bathroom? What tile does he want? I'd like to see the vanity against a white wall. Sherwin -Williams Alabaster is a favorite of mine. Can you show us the plan of the room?

When we re-did our boys' bathroom, we had the vanity painted dark navy blue.

Here are the finishes we used:

    - medium grey large tile floor

    - painted navy vanity (SW "Naval")

    - ceasarstone frosty carrina countertop

    - ORB knobs on vanity (from Lowes or HD)

    - chrome faucet

    - ORB metal on the vanity light and ceiling light

    - beveled mirror with no frame

    - SW Light French gray (mixed at half-strength) wall paint

    - white and navy blue shower curtain

    - white tub

    - white subway tile shower surround

    - chrome shower fixtures

I think mixing 2 metals is fine, and you could go with either a combo of ORB and BN, or ORB and chrome. When people mix 3 metals, that looks wonky to me. Personally I don't like chrome or SN on light fixtures, don't know why, so I always do lights with ORB or matte black.

    Good luck!

Hi Carolyn. Thanks for the advice.
The tub/shower is one fiberglass unit. No floor tile has been selected. We are not using tile on the wall.

Hi AJCN. Thank you, great advice.
What you did sounds wonderful. Can you share pics?

I'm not home right now and I'm such a bad photographer! But I'll try to get some pics when home, after cleaning a bathroom used by 2 teenage boys!!

Wait, I just re-read your original post and you said this is a new build. So are you sure you want to put in a fiberglass tub/shower unit? Is that because it's a more economical choice? I'm not a pro, but the ones I've seen don't look very good. Maybe there are some nice looking ones on the market that I am not aware of. If you do decide to go with fiberglass and you are less than happy with the looks, a really cute shower curtain will be helpful.

And I seem to remember some people on this forum have shared links to some really fun online shower curtain sources. Your son might want to pick out a really unique design or a super-hero shower curtain or other design that he loves. I don't know the links, but maybe someone on here will post some for you.

Your son has good taste. The light and the mirror are really cute.

    Good luck!

Yes, economics. Not to get fully into it, but we lost our home to hurricane Florence. Insurance doesn’t give you what you need to rebuild when you’ve lost everything. So we have to economize.

I think it looks great! I love that you are letting him choose even if it’s something that you necessarily wouldn’t have chosen yourself. We did the same thing when we built. We have fiberglass showers in our kids bathrooms and they work fine. There are some really cool nautical/pirate shower curtains on amazon.

We did Luxury vinyl tile on the floor in our kids' bath. Inexpensive, durable, and easy cleaning - no grout! I'll get photos up as soon as our shower curtain is hung -- I'm waiting on hooks.
