Dining Room Help

Hello! I’m needing help with my dining room which I’ve posted here before but I can’t seem to get it quite right.

All the millwork will be painted BM Simply White (as opposed to the existing creamy color). It’s a work in progress throughout the house.

I need a new rug and new chandelier.

I need to paint the walls over the wainscoting. I’m not sure if I should paint them Simply White to match the wainscoting, SW Aesthetic White (which is a shade lighter than Accessible Beige) which is the main color throughout my house, or something totally different.

I think my style is a casual transitional one. I LOVE the Pottery Barn look. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

    Some more angles

And here’s the room directly across the dining room

I really like the room! I agree a new chandelier would be ideal. Have you seen any that you like, yet? For the rug, I’d continue with the neutral palette. What is your budget?

What do you think will look better - something dark like Kendall Charcoal or the entire room in Simply White? The room doesn't get a lot of light so I'm worried it will look like a cave, at the same time, I'm concerned about the stark contrast with the entire room being Simply White against the dark wood.

Maybe go with a lighter gray if you don’t get a lot of light. Your office color is pretty.

Thank you. The office is SW Intellectual Gray. Do you think Aesthetic White is too light? I have a swatch and it appears to have a greige undertone?

    Beautiful home.

I wanted to add that if u ever what to add a hint of muted color the upholstered chairs in a blue would be nice.

I don’t have a swatch of that myself but looking at photos online, that color would be fine as well. I don’t think it’s too light.

Rather than bronze I would select a light gold/brass updated fixture like one of these. The design compliments the wood chairs.

To go with the new chandelier, I would select a trellis design rug, light in color to boost the light level in the room and provide a fitting backdrop for the dining set. Maybe not this exact rug, but you get the idea. I would also consider doing something special to the tray ceiling. Gold leaf, wallpaper or decorative paint.

This one below might be a bit too gray for the room.

You can see that some of the contrasting colors in the rug work better than others. This one is too orange IMO

I did try one more traditional style rug, but IMO it made the room a bit stuffy.

What a beautiful home 3 peaches. That millwork is gorgeous. Your dining room needs some “magic”. I would paint ceiling of tray a deep color and do complimentary color above chair rail/wainscoting. A palette of greens or blues with a new gold transitional chandelier would be awesome. A rug might be difficult. Need size of room and table size to be sure. You need 3’ from table edge to accommodate chair push back. Give me some measurements and I can help you out. Dining rooms are great for stretching your inner diva!! Lol

Ignore the crooked table and rug but too pinky beige and blah?

Not sure how cohesive this rug is with the rest of my main floor

3BP your home is beautiful :) Do you mind me asking the source of the fern prints in your dining room?

I think the rug looks nice and flows with rest of house.

What do you think about either of these rugs? Plus the foyer rug is now neutral

Like both but I like the second one best because the room needs a bit of "grounding" and the bigger color helps. Also the shape of the medallion mimics somewhat the trey ceiling shape. I like that connection. Have you tried the table lengthwise from the china cabinet to the entry? It would "open the room" up if there is enough room. If you could take the "leaf" out (I think there is a leaf?) and when using leaf, the table can expand toward the entry since you probably only do that for holidays and special occasions? Very pretty home.

Thank you Flo! Actually the leaf is removed and I wish it would work lengthwise.

Well, nuts! haha! But it will look very pretty in any case.

I ordered the blue rug! Now for the walls... the wainscoting is BM Simply White. The wall colors in the foyer, kitchen and great room is SW Accessible Beige.

    Which should I do?

    1. Paint walls Simply White to match wainscoting
    2. Paint walls SW Aesthetic White (which is a shade lighter than Accessible Beige
    3. Add picture frame molding like attached to upper walls and paint everything Simply White

It arrived. I hope it works and looks cohesive with my home. What do you think?

Beautiful and I wouldn't paint the walls unless you just must have a change. I would paint same as trim, but in matte/flat finish. The rug colors are so pretty!! Great choice. Can't wait to see it under the table? What size did you get?

It’s an 8x10 and thank you! Do you think picture molding on the upper walls in the same trim color (BM Simply White) would be even better (like attached) or just leave walls as is?

I would leave trim off walls because it limits wall hangings. If you do that paint mouldings same as below in same finish. Probably “satin”.

TBP your wall colour is stunning... is this aesthetic white?
