This is that time of year when you can think up weird things and try them out. I would go for it only because they grow phenomenally fast. Short and sweet.

in the garden.. we usually need to get things early ... so they can prosper during the warms days.. and cool nights.. of spring .... to get a root mass down.. to make it thru the heat of summer in july/august ... and that is why it MIGHT be too late in mother earth.. depending where you are.. and what summer holds ...

its a different world in a pot ... so give it a try ... no need to use up all your seeds.. just try a few ... and i might keep the pot itself.. out of direct sun .. after the babes pop up ... just so they dont fry ... very bright shade should be fine ... just some protection from blistering sun ... and extreme heat.. if any ....

they can get to be a rather large plant.. so you dont need a lot in a pot.. depending on the size of your pots ...

And if you have dozens or hundreds of 4 o:clock vollunteers already hey.....yeah! When those grenades go off.

I've never had one four o'clock seed germinate from overwintered seed. I do dig the root/tuber up in the Fall and store them inside for the winter...they get bigger every year.

I'm in z5 too and, with the miserable spring weather we had, everything in the gardens is 3 weeks behind anyway. lol! I grow 4 o'clocks in the ground and the tubers that are next to the house manage to survive our winters.... they also self-sow like crazy. :)
