Thanks, Maryl. I'd written an explanatory text about Golden Breasted Starling and Houzz deleted it completely - after the photo managed to load. Anyway, I hadn't been sure it was going to make it this spring, but then suddenly it started looking OK, and then amazingly, it put up this scape with a beautiful bloom. Go figure.

Alex, these are pretty. Thingamajig is my favorite of these.

Check the size of your pictures. Generally mine are around 2.8-3.1 mb. Some of mine came out 5.9mb and these will never load.

Alex, Double Breasted must be jinxed! I lost half of mine to voles last year. It struggled to survive and I only had one or two blooms this year. It is looking better so maybe next year! Yours is a much better bloom. Glad your blooms are bustling along!

Yes, to everyone else - I saw this Lambertson in the catalog and really loved it. But later wasn't quite sure what I would be getting because of a few very different looking photos of it. Very pleased with it, though crossing my fingers if we have another exceptionally hard winter. My climate may be at the upper end of its endurance.

About your seedling, the eye may get better on subsequent blooms. I like the color combo on it!

Incredibly beautiful Lambertsons. You may eventually, though, have to settle for its pollen, as I suspect you are indeed the upper end of its hardiness.

Yeah, thinking you may be right, mantis. Will give it extra protection this winter, but am preparing myself for all possibilities.

Alex, you will be amazed at how much better seedlings will look in the upcoming years. You really can't tell much from a first year. They still have a lot of maturing to do.

Lambertson daylilies are gorgeous, but like Mantis said, they can have problems in our climate. We lose a lot of them, but you might have more snow cover than we do.

Nancy - I'm hoping you're right about the seedlings! Had a Linda Beck seedling open today, but didn't want to post it yet - so blotchy and ugly - maybe the second bloom when it opens. But...I can't help but think that all of these first scapes were really affected by the unusual weather, and that the next ones will look more normal.

As for the Lambertson, we'll see. We had a pretty good snow cover this past winter, which may be why it survived in the first place.

All this talk about Lambertson daylilies got me to wondering how many I had and how they have done here. I know all of the hybrydizers of every plant I own but haven’t paid much attention since I’m not doing any crosses/ hybridizing. I have had Orchid Octopus for several years, planted in a warmer? place for it here but it was really small this spring, moved it to a sunnier spot. I got Silky Skies as a bonus two years ago, it was in a warmer? place and it shrunk this season too, it also got moved to sunnier spot this spring. I bought a single fan of Martian Moons this spring, it’s is a sunny spot, hasn’t bloomed yet. Now I’m wondering if I should just chalk these all up as goners, just disappointing.

I just posted my first post of the year, I uploaded two pics in a row one 4MB one less than 300KB - no difference. So looks like it's not the size..

My seedlings are so blotchy this year :( and some looking worse than years before, like.. where is that pretty edge you used to have? ))

Nat - as I mentioned above, our weather hasn't been typical for the season, and the seedlings which I have waited for all these months, have so far failed to excite me. I'm hoping this is because of the weather - and "first flower jitters" - lol.

Sherry - it does give me pause about buying any more Lambertsons.
