Did the subfloor have to be taken out and redone with a slope towards the drain?

My guy is a construction manager, and yes, that has to be done. It's a little extra work, but worth it. For a small footprint, you can do a good-looking drain-pan design, but it's so much cleaner with a continuous floor. Also keep in mind if you design the openings and spacing correctly, you might have an ADA-compatible design for elderly buyers in the future (of course, with a bench and rails added, but that too can be done with a designer's eye).

You are so welcome! We are saving up for a similar situation in a small main bathroom. Haven't soaked in the tub in decades!! Time to make the most of the footprint. You might also consider a corner toilet. I have that in a small powder room (with a hanging sink/no pedestal) also to open up the footprint and visually maximize space. Am in a 105-year-old craftsman bungalow...gotta get creative with space.
