bathroom Help PLLLEEAASEE!

We Are in the process of completing our bathroom in our bedroom. It is a smaller bathroom and our house theme is kind of farm/modern. I AM NO DESIGNER (let’s be clear). I picked out these floors, did a subway tile with black grout and would like our mirror to be trimmed in wood. I need help... budget friendly help! Trying to get it completed before our baby arrives in a few weeks! What color should the wood be that surrounds our single mirror? And what color should our walls be? And what about the color of the cabinet!?

White vanity. Don’t know that I’d go with a real wood tone with those floors. Maybe a frameless or thin black frame mirror? Congrats on the baby!!!

are you keeping the cream color vanity top? You might use a warm white to blend with that. A bright white would match the tile better but then you would need a white countertop too. The tub and tile paint to do that is too toxic smelling for using while pregnant. So I would paint vanity same color as the wall in a subtle light color. With the white tile you could use any color.

A frameless mirror could be framed with the tiling for a uniform wood look.

you have a big nesting project, so take it easy and rest up for birth.

For the record- am not doing this myself- we have a contractor completing this task. I’m not that crazy! Lol

    In that case:

I would paint the walls a color that closely matched the tile, use the same color for the vanity in a different sheen, and if you really want to surround the mirror, try to coordinate with the flooring.

However...a smarter use of money instead of having someone paint the vanity, would be to keep the vanity as-is if it’s in good shape, and get new counter-top and faucets. I kind of like the dark vanity!

Hopefully a designer or color specialist can give you some input.

Benjamin Moore Cloud white for wall colors.

One rectangular mirror over each of the vanities.

I have Cloud White in my kitchen and family room and I love it. Depending on your lighting, it may show a bit yellow in your bathroom?

I was looking at your walls and they seem to need a fair amount of repair? A suggestion is using white painted beadboard on the lower part of the wall and a color on the top part.

    Just an example...

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><md>So you like 2 vertical mirrors!? I’m nervous about the cloud white showing up yellow

Whoops that one pic has tile below instead of beadboard. Same idea though with white on bottom.

Here is a picture of my kitchen when we were doing the floor, with Cloud White wall and a lot of natural light.

We painted our bathroom BM in Cloud White - No natural light, and no hint of yellow at all. It's a crisp clean white. Didn't realize it could hint yellow, otherwise would have stirred away.

If that contractor used that mastic sitting there, you have MUCH bigger worries than decorating. That tile job needs redoing, with proper waterproofing behind it. The slivers are a dead giveaway of someone with very low skills. us mastic. That’s a fail.

GD, for my education, which bucket is the mastic?

Mastic never belongs in a wet area. No Pro would ever use it.

Greens- I don’t know the lingo. What are you saying? What is mastic?

GD, please educate us on why mastic is a no-no in a shower. I've always heard that, but don't know why.

Even with the greenboard and water proof
    membrane?

Can a pro please weigh in here? I read on another thread a while back that mastic is ok on shower walls but not shower floors. Is that true? I would like to understand this. I’m sure OP would like to hear the answer as well.

I read the tech sheet on that product but I don’t really understand it.

OK, I would do a black vanity, or a cranberry or blue vanity if you are adventurous and a white or light countertop. The wood vanities above are also very nice. I'd get a medium wood frame for the mirror, or match your vanity, or get something custom made with barnwood from an Etsy seller. Or Amazon has good mirrors.

Hang in there, you are doing great.

Mastic cures by dehydration, not chemical reaction like thinset. Thinset will cure rock hard under water. Mastic re-emulsifies And gets soft. Since tile and grout are not waterproof, you can bet it will be soft and squishy anywhere that gets wet. It also has organic material in it that feeds mold. If there is green board under the mastic, that is a triple failure, including the poor tile layout and mastic. Green board hasn’t been code approved since 2006, and was a very bad idea even before then.
