1954 brick ranch - update with black trim?

We recently purchased a 1954 ranch that looks a bit drab, I want to update it to a modern look. We're very drawn to darker houses with wood soffits and stone. With this house we have the stone (which we love), but the brick and roof color are throwing me....and we want to keep both since they're in good condition.

I'm thinking to paint the window trim SW Caviar black, new gutters/fascia also black and garage door in black. Then for a pop of color, SW Cascades blue/green for the front door. We took down the old railings around the front door steps, so perhaps putting up some modern railings up the steps. New mailbox/house numbers too.

Phase 2 and 3's - Eventually we can do the soffit in a honey or walnut wood look. Down the road will put up a portico/front porch to add dimension.

Thoughts on color? Advice....am I crazy. Here's a few pics.

Stone and brick don't ever really work on the same exterior. Are you open to painting the brick? It will help break up all that brown. I'm just not sure painting the trim would really help the issue. Also, do you really want your garage to be a focal point? If you paint it black it will be.

Something like this? I think it would be better than cedar soffits. The below look offers more contrast and your windows already have black muntins.

Oh and landscaping, landscaping, landscaping will do wonders. It often has the greatest impact.

I didn't think about making the garage a focal point by painting it black. Do you have any other suggestions on colors.

Originally I was going to paint the brick...but it's in great condition. Open to color suggestions though!

Absolutely on landscaping Anna, just trying to nail down the colors first. You should have seen the 25 potted plants in front.

Generally, the recommendation for a garage is to blend it in by trying to make it disappear. Usually accomplished by painting it the same color as the siding.

Its a very nice looking house. The things that will improve it most are 1. A new door. 2. Some new landscaping. Also the porch looks a bit unwelcoming. Maybe power washing it will help, but, it just looks a bit dirty. I would do those things, before painting anything, because, everything looks to be in great shape. No black garage door, that will stick out like a sore thumb. In fact, although, black is a favorite color of mine, I just cant see black anywhere on your house.

Thanks Cat_ky- we've certainly done some powerwashing, There were many potted plants and full gutters when we moved in. These pics we're before the wash.
