Very marble in appearance. What does the etch text show? Because I’m betting it’s not quartzite.

just heard back from the supplier and they said that this is a type of quartzite that etches so I guess now it's decision time...

If you are looking for something in the blue family, Sea Pearl is known to be a quartzite that is very durable. I would not settle for a stone that etches.

Ditto to what others have said. The stone yard wants a quartzite price for marble. It is a pretty stone, tho.

Our granite supplier now lists River Blue as a “hard marble” to indicate that it can etch. They have a grading scale that gives you an idea of cost relative to other stones. River Blue is one of their lower grades. They also label Fantasy Brown as a “hard marble”. Gotta admit I fell in love with a River Blue slab, but I’m not up for the etching and I know DH and I don’t police the wiping up enough to avoid it.

Does anyone know if there is a quartz similiar to this that has a hint of green in it?

Funny, our local stone place lists River blue (same appearance) as granite….

I’ve seen it listed as marble at some places and granite at others. When we started looking one of our stone yards had it as granite and before we made our final decision they had moved it into the marble category. If you are considering it, I would get a sample to test for staining and etching (especially for etching, since sealing can’t protect from that).

We are about to get River Blue (RB) installed in our kitchen. My understanding is this and Fantasy Brown (FB) are of the same family of stone which both come from India. Our designer has FB in her kitchen and many friends with RB…no complaints on durability. We are going to treat our counters like marble with the comfort of knowing it will be way more forgiving.
