I vote lighter. With the dark woods, it would get lost with a dark color. Something neutral, like SW Barcelona Beige.

A yellow based tan will underpin the gold well - sw blonde is well loved.

I like the suggestion of the yellow based tan......wonderful colors in your room and the right paint will really make this room come alive.

I think that going with a neutral will leave you with a tired looking result. The rich tones of brown/gold and terra-cotta need a lift. I'd suggest you consider Blue-Grays or Greens. Try a very light Blue-Gray for the ceiling too. You can tie it all up by adding fresh pillows to the sofa in whatever color you use for your walls. Check out Benj. Before you paint, take down the drapes and see how the room looks with just the wooden blinds. I think the fabric at the windows is spoiling the room and, during the day, pull the blinds up,

And if you can if you can reupholster the two yellow ottomans? and.I see the courtains are not the same? You have nice windows, if you can change them (courtains) instead you can put a roman shade in a ligther color, courtains are optional. This will enance your room a lot.

I agree that there is too much warm tones. Consider this wall colour for a fresher look?

You're right about blue - there isn't any in your room because it is all gold and brown. Your wine bar glassware is the inspiration to break the gold mould. Paint large poster boards with colors you like and place them around the room in different light and times of day to see how blue works here.

Hi- there's potential in everything,Perhaps if you changed out the drapes for roman shades, in a soft warm linen with a same color woven pattern...the windows would pop ..the walls would appear in touch with the darker furniture. I saw this done in a home with dark wood and fabric furniture. They chose roman shades in a warm butter neutral with a dark chestnut colored grosgrain ribbon stitched about 6" from the side. The levelers went as well as drapes and pull back. They also added a second trim color in chestnut around the window frame. Worked wonders. Fresh. bye now...

I agree about the curtains being wrong for the room. I think a lot depends on where you live. I lived in Arizona and used earthy tones to balance in the home, because of the constant sunlight.
I moved to Virginia, where there are seasons, and many dark days in the year. First, I painted earthy tones, but it seemed too dark. I then found a paint through a designer that perked up my house interior, and made it look bigger, and does go with earthy toned furniture, as well as cream colored furniture. It is a very versatile color.
It is a Benjamin Moore paint called Ladyfinger. Can't say enough good things about this color!!!

Just peeked at your room again, and Ladyfinger will go well with the ottomans, too. But the window area need much lighter treatments.

Sooo smart to put them up there like that to get an idea.........and I think it shows they are not needed, right??? You might like the blinds now, though. See how you feel when the curtains come down. They add a little color to that area and go well with your wood.

I like 'judit' idea for a blue. For the simplest transformation. blue paint and accessories, pillows and table top accents in many shades of blue. The drapes could be switched out to something that will carry the yellow/gold and red tones. Preferably a pattern that works with your current decor. Inexpensive changes.

I would not use dark blinds. Pale neutral for light control and patterned drapes in blue, yellow a touch of red.

Artwork color inspiration. You need some art to work with the colors in the room.
