Tuesday openers with overcast skies

Mostly overcast skies this morning so I thought to get out early and see what opened. Storms are predicted for this afternoon. I know the foliage here is taking a hit so we could use at least 2 inches of rain to soak the gardens.

BOSS LADY - opened today. I have two clumps of this one. This one is in the Judy D. bed which will stay. Pics are of both of the blooms in the Judy D. bed.

COUNT IT ALL JOY - started yesterday but this is from this morning. Poor thing is overwhelmed with all the coneflowers.

LONG LEGGED LAP DANCER - opening today. Moved last fall to my driveway bed so it is shorter scapes.

PATTERN EVOLUTION - opening today and is a monster plant. I never get a lavender color like Murphy's photo. I got this one a couple of years ago from them. Soil differences or heat?

PLUM FOOLISH - a good garden edge planting.

PRETTY DESIRABLE - opened today. I moved it from the front to the back garden last fall so it is on shorter scapes this season. I'm sure it will adapt.

THUNDERCAT - also moved last fall to the back garden near Pretty Desirable. Short scapes.

SCIENCE OF MIND - opening today. Large bloom on short scape. Foliage taking a hit.

PRAGUE SPRING - opening today.

JOAN DERIFIELD - this is a second planting that started blooming.

And one of my seedlings that survived the weeds. I believe this one is a RFK cross that I've had

for several years. Estimating the bloom is about 5 inches.

I think I got all the new ones for today.

Thundercat here also has some short scapes, but not from a move. Spring Mystique looks very good, with one scape having nice branching. Nice clumps on all.

Interesting comments on short scapes. Last year so many of my daylilies had short scapes. I put it down to the drought that went from May to September here . This year with all the rain we had in March April May and June , I figured scapes would be sky high . Not so . Scapes are short again and we have moved into drought conditions in a very quick period of time this year . The ground is cracking , and cement like to dig right now . Seems there is no happy medium here . Just extremes I should count myself lucky to have them grow at all I guess.

Love Boss Lady , Plum Foolish and Make it Snappy . Will be keeping my eyes peeled for these here . Thanks for sharing the photos . Hope you get the desired rain with no ill effects to go along with it .

Boss Lady looks like it has a lot of buds! What nice clumps you have. Plum Foolish is such a pretty color As does Make it Snappy.

Great clumps! Thanks for the closeup of Make It Snappy! I like the Combination of Long Legged Lap Dancer and the yarrow! Joan Derifield looks so much darker and less red for you than here.

Boss Lady, Pretty Desirable and Joan Derifield are my favorites of these. Be sure to post a clump shot when Boss Lady gets going. Should be great!

My favorite is Count It all Joy. What a pretty little pink....Spring Mystique looks interesting. Can't see much of the pattern on the face from that distance, but it looks like a good one...........Maryl

Julia, very nice seedling! Had a couple catch my eye today, Science of Mind and Count it All Joy, love the pinks. Thunder at looks good to me too.

Thank you all for the comments. I will definitely post a pic of Boss Lady with multiple blooms. Next time Spring Mystique blooms I'll try for a closer shot. I've posted that one in prior years and it does have an interesting pattern.

We got a smitten of rain late today so I hope we will get more as we really need it. Temps dropped from 90 with oppressive humidity to mid 70's now. Much better to sleep.

No deadheading tonight so I guess I'll have to be prepared to do it tomorrow morning.

Of course, I love boss Lady and Thundercat, short or not. Make it Snappy is a beauty. I always enjoy Long Legged Lap Dancer, and your seedling is a lovely one.
