Not only does it look like mechanical injury, but it appears to have been inflicted intentionally.

This is exactly the mark left when my kid got their hands on a Philips head screw driver.

Thanks for the answers! I'm pretty sure no one has done those intentionally, especially since those marks are only seen on the plants that have thrips. But I guess you'll never know, so I'll keep an eye on them!

Is this on a new leaf that opened up with those holes or did the holes happen after it was opened? A little damage on a furled leaf can look like that when it unrolls.
