Got the big one done and moving on!

I finally got the king sized quilt back from the longarmer and bound. My son chose the block (Sarah's Choice) and his wife picked the color scheme but not in such a way I felt hampered. She calls this "farmy" which is a new term to me.

It's good to do something traditional now and then so I don't forget how. I tend to wander to modern things these days and love my applique projects.

The small pinwheels in the borders show I didn't have quite enough fabric to go all the way around.

Sharon, this quilt took about two months off and on. It's 7 - 12" blocks across and 7 down so completely square and easy to do the math. When all pieced it was 100" x 100". I used a 108" wide backing so, when cut at 108" or so, had 4" all around for the longarmer.

I did the blocks production style. I made 49 pinwheels and then 49 X 4 flying geese, which were all the same fabric so went fast. Then it's just an assembly project.

It's not my favorite job to do but sometimes you just have to produce one for a specific need. Glad it's done.

Wow Linda, how long did this take to make? I made a black and red rail fence king at one time and the thought of making another king size makes me hyperventilate! I'm not familiar with 'farmy' either, but traditional I understand and usually gravitate that way. Your quilts always look, and are, elegant! ......whether you run short of fabric or not. lol Well done!

Although I've never heard the word used I think it's the right one for this quilt, I love it because it has the star blocks on it and I think star block quilts just remind people of places in the Midwest back in the day. Something Eleanor Burns would feature on her shows. WOW, king-sized? How much backing fabric did that take??

I agree with Rita, I also love any kind of star block. They do seem to make me think of the Midwest and farm country. Very well done, Linda!

That's a really lovely quilt, Linda. The pinwheels in the border are a sweet touch. They don't look like filler to me at all. Very clever solution.

Don't know how I missed this one, it's beautiful. Don't worry about the small pinwheels, they are just a design modification.

This quilt is lovely, Linda! I also love star blocks and I really like the fabric colors you have chosen. I will bet those extra pinwheels were “meant” to be there as a personal design element. Right?

Wow! What a lovely, large quilt! I never would have know about the extra pinwheels unless you told me. I thought they were part of the design. Looks great!
