IMHO it Is very difficult to find overhead garage doors with windows that look correct and match the level of detailing of the house. The ones that look best are very high end custom doors hardly anyone ever uses due to cost. I‘m hoping to find “carriage style” overhead garage doors with no windows, but not custom and are low maintenance.

Since the garage is the statement on your house I would do wood doors with glass or at least wood look .I would then do the shutters to match

I love the look of carriage-style doors. Overhead Door Company sells a faux-wood door that looks great. Not the cheapest (but not the cost of custom either, I'd imagine).

FWIW, my architect was impressed with the how realistic these look. He is a wood guy through and through and hates knock-offs, but a recent client used these doors and he was surprised how good the "wood" looked, even from a few feet away.

On their website, you'll also find a tool where you can play around and design your dream door (maybe this is the customer door myrica4 was talking about. I know some carpenters build them from scratch)

Another option is to have a painted carriage style door, maybe paint to match the color of your shutters? Home Depot sells some. Not sure how the quality is.

Girlwonder - Thank you for the links for Overhead Door Company! I’m going to find a local dealer so I can see them in person. Hopefully a good compromise between standard stamped steel & custom wood.

Myrica, let me know how it goes with the overhead door company. I heard (from some GC) that there are other companies who sell the exact same doors that ODC does, at a better price. I’m not sure if that’s true. If you hear of anything like that, could you let me know? BTW I liked the ODC sales rep that came to my house. He was knowledgable, professional, and even had a little “fan“ pack of samples of the “wood” so I could see what color looked good with my new house paint. The only thing I didn’t like was the price..I wish it was lower (welcome to remodeling, right?)

Terri, in terms of the constrast, it seems like you could choose a dark wood for the doors. Would that work? Can you get samples and see how it looks? Or maybe that‘s a reason to go painted, to match the color on the shutters? Hey, some of the paint company websites have visualizer tools. I used one (maybe Sherwin Williams). I wonder if something like that could help you see how all the elements work. Even if it’s not exactly your house, it might help you see how the proportions of color look. Tangnetially, I was using the Pental visualizer to see the different counter tops. You can change the floor and backsplash and wall paint color etc. For me, playing with that tool confirmed I needed a darker floor tile and a backsplash that had some pop (not just 50 shades of white).

Not sure why you think your need garage doors. These look perfectly fine and frankly pretty chic as garage doors go. If you would like windows, you can purchase magnetic windows that adhere ti the face of your door and create the appearance of windows. That will satisfy both you and your husband. Inexpensive fix.

I like the style of the white doors but I don’t like the color. I am not sure if the dark wood looks right. I’m thinking either black or the color of the siding.
