Forestlake and Friends

For all of you who think we grow only hot colors, here are a few pastels this morning. We grow several of Fran Harding's Forestlake series and love them all.


Forestlake Becky is a tremendous grower in our garden.


Forestlake Laura Lee Harding is another great grower. Please excuse the dead flower behind the flower pictured. It has a hybridizing tag on it and the dead flower was too tough to pinch off.



Forestlake Pleats for Laura has not yet proven itself.



Now for a few more pastels. Gaudeamus is doing well now that it has been moved.


Gay Activist is blooming late this year. We have never had the "bright grenadine persimmon" color the hybridizer describes.


Glowing Quasar seems to like our garden.


The flowers of See Me-Feel Me-Touch Me were excellent this morning.


Puffer Fish is not doing well this year, but this flower was nice. The one behind it was deformed. I should have just picked it off.

    Now for some brighter and gaudier colors--


    Bird's Eye View is new this season. It is bred by Canadian hybridizer Bryan Culver.


    This is one of the best pictures I have ever gotten of Crossfire, but it still does not show the color correctly. It has a black blush over the petals.


    Explosion in the Paint Factory is different every day. The color varies as well as the twisting of the sepals.


    Horns is a big robust plant with large flowers.


    Moving Forward is a southern bred one that does well here.


    Pastor Z was new last season. I like the big throat on this one.


    Transylvanian Tango was a little splotchy today.


    No seedling pix today. It started to rain and I didn't get any hybridizing done. Maybe I can do some later if it dries out since the temps are way down. Unfortunately, it's not enough rain to do any good--just enough to send you inside.

      That's a heavy edge on Moving Forward. Is it always that strong? Bird's Eye View looks interesting. The edge is not quite so pronounced as in the hybridizer's pic.. We can always count on you to show us some different cultivars. Lacking rain here too; we need a good soaking.

      Explosion in the Paint Factory is interesting, is it ever overwhelmEd with the splotches? Moving a Forward and See Me/feel me/Touch Me are my favorites today. Gay Activist is a lovely one too.

      I do like the brighter ones. Thank you for showing Explosion in the Paint Factory. It is one that I really want to add to my garden. It sells out so fast. Horns is pretty, and Moving Forward looks really good. I like Transylvania Tango splotchy or not. ...I don't see the splotches. Birds Eye View is really a pretty bloom, no wonder you like it. A very nice post today, Nancy.

      I have not quite decided if I like the striped/splashed looking daylilies yet, but I could go for Explosion I think. I like the form, and the streaking looks more intended. I like Crossfire, and Bird's Eye View is great.

      Sherry, Explosion is quite variable. The picture below is the most yellow one we have personally seen although I am told it sometimes produces all yellow flowers.



      Nancy, I don't care for the stippled look but the striped ones are interesting. I think there is still a lot of work to done on them until they are as attractive as striped rose, for example.


      Mantis, the picture of Moving Forward is rather typical. The nice edge was one of the reasons I wanted it.

      What a gorgeous bunch! I love all in the first post )) Can't pick a favorite. Crossfire is very pretty and love the look of Moving Forward.

      Crossfire is my favorite of these. Although I have pastels, I do prefer the richer colors. Explosion in the Paint Factory is always interesting.

      All the Forest Lakes look good. I think my favorites are See Me Feel Me .. and Crossfire.

      Always attracted to EIPF and See Me-Feel Me-Touch Me is my other choice because it's white and I'm hung on whites at the moment. :)
