Yikes, Andrew! Where did you ever hear that terrible advice?

ive asked a few people and they all conflicted each other and I'm so confused i read so many sites too and some conflict each other. So what should i do? I have them in a glass container with a paper towel and a tight lid with no holes. Do they need to be warm or anything? and should i remove the lid and add holes or anything?? thank you guys

Andrew, the eggs can stay where they are only until the time hatching begins. At that point, you must provide a means of air exchange, the appropriate food source, and a method of keeping the enclosure clean.

It is not recommended that you make your own air holes, nor use screen as the hatchlings can easily escape. The use of cheesecloth is often suggested.

It can be very confusing, I agree. And the stakes are high; these moths are becoming quite rare in many locations. The eggs are harvested yet it is unlawful to release the adults anywhere in this country except for Florida.

What is the food source you've decided to use? They will need fresh leaves regularly of a preferred host plant.

i am using sweet gum leaves off the ones we have in the backyard. They stopped moving yesterday and haven't moved since and im kind of worried about them. Is it normal for them to stop moving the day after hatching?

and how long should i wait for any other eggs to hatch?

Sweet gum leaf emissions kill them when high concentration in the air; much ventillation needed. And use tiny amount of leaf.

Andrew, the advice you got about putting the eggs in a container with no holes, no leaves, and no water was excellent advice. It is what I've been doing for years.

Thank you guys! I just had more laid on July 28th I have them in s closed container no holes no water no leaves and I’m hoping they will hatch in week or so. I’m kind of worried because some of the eggs look like they collapsed in on themselves but others are still round and full looking. Hoping all goes well
