Anges new Kitchen.

BEFORE & AFTER! We started this journey a couple months ago. Angela came up with the idea of using the existing cabinets since they were of excellent quality. So we were left with paint colors, back splash and counter top. She also wanted to replace all of the appliances. Up first, Crystal from Shabby Brown Restore, to look at painting these cabinets in an off-Black-Gloss. Since it didn't have much natural light, I suggested gloss to bounce the light around. The end result is stunning, but not recommended for families with young kids, AKA "messy" fingerprints. Crystal and her husband did an incredible job and I'd recommend them to anyone considering such an endeavor. Next up, Albany Marble, to choose back splash and counter-top, material. Angela fell in love with this gorgeous, natural Quartz and the glass backsplash is super fun. I always use Albany Marble, for all my solid surface and tile needs. Albany Marble is a direct importer, so truly one cannot beat the prices and the welcoming customer service is stellar! The original kitchen didn't have enough cabinets, so we extended the Refrigerator wall, by adding 4 more uppers and lowers. We also had to cut off the Bar counter to even out and enlarge the counter space. As you can see, the end result is over the top! They say it takes a village and here we proved that it indeed takes a solid team! #Anotherbdesigns #allinthedetails #shabbybrownrestore #albanymarbleinc #blackkitchens #kitchenremodel #kitchenfacelift #quartzcountertops #naturalquartz #Glasstile #Shineon #ange

I wonder how much equity she lost on that paint job? Gray is a fad and the next person is HIGHLY unlikely to pay for it.

Valid points. Although it's true, Gray started as a trend, its now been in style about nine years and many believe it may become the new neutral. Actually as this is a high gloss it's very hard to tell it's actually an off Black which is currently trending. As to your point about equity and colors, wood cabinets share similar problems. In fact wood cabinets are the least popular choice among home owners, with white being number one. Show me a wood cabinet and I'll tell you what year it was done. To that end and in this price range, since I always bring these things up, with home owners, Ange has zero concern for the next buyer. Her old home was even more exotic than this and sold in a month. Like many of my clients, she'll call me in a few to re-do her Kitchen. Most change every five to ten years. As a side note, this house was bought out of forclosure precisely because in this price range, and for its neighborhood, its finishes were not high quality and desperately in need of upgrading.

@ B designs, I guess it just depends one what part of the country you live in. I live in the chicagoland area and based on my experience most people like wood instead of white/painted cabinets. I have rental units with both and its seems much much easier to rent out the ones with wood cabinets. I have tenets that just moved out because they bought a house. They were living in a unit with white cabinets. They bought a house that has wood cabinets. They said " yeah the white brightens things up, but wood looks a lot better". This is just one example of many.

It's actually a nationwide statistic. But again to each his own. Painted cabinets are also more expensive than wood and I find people are often surprised by that. Often people want what they believe to be the "fanciest" and assume that means cherry cabinets. When they discover that painted cabinets cost more because of the process, they are usually shocked. White is also timeles. All one needs to do to update white cabinets is change the hardware. In Anges price range however, anyone looking at buying this home could more than afford to do what they wanted. The bigger problem with this kitchen in this price range is it's size, but was built for an older single Lady who I'm guessing didn't realize, or care how large American kitchens in million dollar homes have gotten. Ange however just purchased it a year ago and will be a single woman, empty nester in 2 years. The home does have another full size kitchen in the basement off the swimming pool area, that gets far more use.

To get a better understanding her very personal style, this is the Living Room. It's uncompleted, but still very much Ange.

I'm not they jack up the prices when its popular. Its doesn't actually cost more. They use low grade wood since its gonna be covered anyway. Did you ever look at the back of prefinished dark floors? I remember about 3 years ago white trim was almost as expensive as oak trim because there was a wave of popularity. Now its back to about 1/3rd the price.

Are those pictures taken from the set of the movie beetlejuice?

When purchasing painted cabinets, one chooses the wood. I'm not talking about cheap box cabinets. I don't disagree that painting Cherry would be a waste, but I usually suggest using a less expensive variety such as Maple. As for ore finished hardwood, again, you choose the variety of wood. I'm not familiar with what you're talking about? Their are varieties of everything from Maple, to Brazillion Cherry available. If you prefer stained wood, that's fine, like I said, to each his own.
