Where do you usually keep your bread? Mine tends to be in the refrigerator or freezer, but I don't eat a lot of sandwiches or toast. Does a special drawer make sense for your lifestyle?

it stays best in freezer currently but would love to be able to have fresh bread without haveing to toast it

I keep my bread in the fridge and freezer. No food left out in a kitchen.

I had one and tried it when we first bought the house. It was largely a lot of wasted drawer space for us. It quickly became used for regular kitchen storage. If you have a large family and eat a lot of bread, it might be useful. I wouldn’t put one in my next kitchen.

What tatts said. I have a bread drawer and it would drive me crazy to open the drawer and then have to open another piece. I would probably just never close that piece.

In 1960, my family moved from a garden apartment in Queens, NY to a brand new house on Long Island. That kitchen came with a bread drawer. I recall it was in a bank of cabinets next to the almond colored fridge. My mother used it not for bread, but rather for our store of Twinkies, Ring Dings, Devil Dogs, and other Hostess brand goodies. Bread was kept in the fridge, because the bread would get moldy in the bread draw. Lol.

As as an adult, in my own home, with DH and son, commercial breads (like Pepperidge Farm, Arnold, and Martin‘s hotdog rolls), are kept in the fridge. Those from local bakeries, are kept in bags on a large cutting board. DH and DS are big bread eaters, so the bread doesn't have time to get moldy.

In this day and age, I can’t see the point of having a bread drawer. They can be difficult to clean, and really, they don’t keep bread fresh.

I either freeze it, or store it for a day or two in the microwave. Flavor diminishes if stored in the fridge. Bakery bread (the only type I care to eat) comes in paper bags, not plastic - but is also not a frequent purchase in this home. Yup, bread is not a staple here...

Pointless bit of fluff, IMO, and would be a PITA. On the order of having to open 2 doors to back your car out of the garage.

In days gone by, bread drawers were completely lined with tin and had a similar sliding tin cover. Mostly to make them rodent proof. The Richelieu product is just a drawer cover (no drawer liner) & is made of plastic; plastic isn't rodent-proof. Nor are the wood bottom & sides of a drawer.

Quality product

This bread box is exactly what I wanted and needed. I have a pkg of hamburger buns and a loaf of rye bread in it now with plenty of room for a couple of other items. Yet it appears compact. Sleek and clean looking. Important to me was, it can be almost against the backsplash and open. Very pleased with this purchase.

We keep our bread in the freezer, thaw the whole loaf, then keep in a drawer, still in it’s packaging. We’ve rarely had a loaf last long enough to get stale or moldy.

Grocery store bread in plastic wrap, Ie WONDER bread ) the ordinary kiddie sandwich bread, has so many preservatives you could store it anywhere. Takes a month to mold. ............: ( or be inedible. Keep it in the car lol.

PS........ The op's pic of the drawer has FAUX bread in it, not plastic enclosed bread. Too much "sealer" on the faux hahahahahah

All the original bread boxes were tin, to deter pests.

I grew up with one and it was a disaster. We never used it for the intended purpose and the sliding top always got stuck. Personally, I would spend my cabinet upgrades on more useful things. We are getting this in our new kitchen and I am so excited!

I had one in my last house. I seen no advantage to it. Most houses don't have to worry about mice anymore.

I have a really nice bread box from Germany and it works perfectly I would not give up a drawer for bread. I also use gluten free for myself and that stays in the freezer. Woner bread you don’t have to worry about it nevers grows mold.

We have a bread drawer similar to the one asked about. We are outside of Boston, so summer humidity can be a bread issue. I love the bread drawer, but it might be because it taught my kids when they were here and my husband still where to put the bread(s) away! LOL

My old Hoosier cupboard has a tin bread drawer with lid. I use it to store candles and candle holders, and matches. That's just what it became. I have never put bread in it, but I don't really see any reason not to other than not being convenient. I use a lot of bread and the cupboard is across the room out of the "food prep zone". ha

The first house I bought, in 1988, has a fully metal lined bread drawer. I liked it but I actually used it to store bags of chips.

I store my bread in the fridge now, so still wouldn’t find a use for that as bread storage.

br...yes, just a plain old drawer that is big..holds lots of bread products. Toaster on the counter above. But then I have two 17 yr old twin boys that are over 6 ft tall. Nothing has a chance to go bad in my house. Especially not bread, lol. I think your needs depend on how quickly you go through your products.
