I was in the dark about Name that Plant, but now I'm not. (They can't be as fast as the Facebook page, though.) Had I known that you guys could identify my alternanthera this spring, I'd have struggled more with my fickleness.

Yes, they are. It's an international group and they don't allow any conversation other than IDs. No idle chatter, which leads to a lot of complaining and a lot of banning. It's run by Soup Nazis. It's great!

Things seldom don't get identified. If they don't it's often because the pix are inadequate, the poster disappears and doesn't answer relevant questions or because no one here has the knowledge of a particular part of the world.

I don't do FB so I can't compare. But I know we've had people ask on NTP to confirm an FB id and it is wrong.

This particular Facebook ID site is an international one and appears to be run by volunteer experts. They're pretty scornful of ID apps and discussions about cultivation or edibility are strictly prohibited. I will definitely check out ours. I had no idea.

For the record, our Name That Plant group is also international and I would argue has volunteer experts such as floral etal.
