I'm admittedly not a fan of TVs over fireplaces ever, but its going to look very top heavy with the TV wider than the fireplace opening.

We have ours above the TV and our TV is larger than the fireplace opening. We have a mantle that spans across the fireplace.

Our TV and fireplace do not look top-heavy, and we do not get neck aches and need to see chiropractors, like many people on this forum assume would be the case.

Depending on how far away you will be viewing the TV, I would probably get the 75”. Well, I would be fine with the 65” but husband likes a big TV lol.

Thanks. I want to go with the 65 but I’m concerned that it will be too high. I can mount it lower but then the outlets will be visible. Wish the contractor put them a little lower but it’s too late now. After taping up the size of the 75” tv it doesn’t seem as overwhelming as I though it would be.

If your viewing distance is where the sofa currently is, def the 75”.

Have you looked at the Samsung frame. It is pretty amazing. It doesn’t disappear (because, hey ours is 65” of tv) but in art mode it looks pretty darn good. Get the new model, not the older one.

I've had my tv over my fireplace for over 5 years and absolutely love it there. Nothing like having a nice fire while binging on Netflix. For your space, I'd go with the bigger tv. There's room for it without the space looking crowded. One thing, consider installing a fireplace mantle below tv. A mantle will protect your tv from the heat of the fireplace. You don't need a deep mantle depending on the setup of your tv and wall bracket. A tv exposed to that kind of heat will not last.

Go bigger. Hardly anyone regrets getting a larger TV. :-)

Thanks everyone for your input I appreciate it. Thanks groveraxle for the pics. Looks like 75 it is. Regarding the mantel I’m not too worried. Live in Texas and have used a fireplace less than a hand full of times in the last 10 years.

This Samsung document states that the maximum operating temperature of its TVs is 104 degrees and that you should light a fire in the fireplace and check the temperature above it before mounting a TV. Of course, if you never use the fireplace then that advise is irrelevant.
