Kitchen Cabinet Height - Help Please

We are remodeling the kitchen from the ground up and the new cabinets will extend along the wall in the picture about 3 extra feet. The problem is that the room we are extending into is an add-on and the beams are lower by 4 inches or so. The cabinet maker said all the cabinets should be the same height, which would mean that the majority of the cabinets will be lower than they currently are (pictured) by about 4" and more ceiling will show. Its a vaulted ceiling and we are dry-walling over the beams because we need insulation. I think the cabinets, which currently are extra tall, might look funny with more wall showing and wonder if the majority of the cabinets can be the existing height and then the cabinets to the right that will be extended can be slightly lower. Cabinet space is not really an issue.

Which will look better? I've circled the problem area and hope I've explained this correctly. Thank you!

could you put a pantry cabinet there that stepped downs so it was floor to 4'' lower than the others? would the next cabinet be the last cabinet? Another thought is to put crown around the top to mitigated the amount of wall showing. That being said I really dont think that they have to be at the same height but I would need to see, and the others, would need to see the cabinet plans.maybe your fridge could go there instead.....

There will be two sets of upper and lowers extending there. The plans originally called for a pantry there, but the cabinet guy said to move it to the other wall, which will house the pantry, the large counter depth refrigerator and the double oven. He said all those tall solid type items should be next to each other. I will have the elevations late tonight.

That is a beautiful kitchen. Thank you so much.

You are replacing all of the cabinets, right? Because that’s the only way to do this correctly.

Yes, we are replacing the cabinets, floors, appliances, etc. , and drywalling over the beams. The space to the right with the ceiling height in question is set back by 8" from the wall with the existing cabinets.

I do not think all tall things "have to be" on one wall, Ill wait to see the plans.

Those look great, but where is the sink going now?

Sink will be in the island, across from the refrigerator and oven

I agree to bring the ceiling all down to one height in the kitchen space to make design much better and I happen to like the idea of all tall items on one wall it makes the space feel more open but your cabinet maker should not be designing your kitchen the upper panels look large so make sure you like that look and that skinny cabinet beside the hood in the uppers does not look good or IMO serve any purpose except to line up with the lowers and all the lowers should be wider drawers and maybe the narrow one a pullout for oils but spices IMO need to be in a drawer facing up to be useable quickly and thos couple of drawers under the cooktop will not store all your pots I bet.All your base cabinets should be drawers BTW I store all my dishes, everyday glassware in drawers and cutlery , gadgets should all be in drwers so those lowers can be 36” wide with 2 drawers shallow on top and then 2 deeper drawers underneath and those should be near the DW it looks like your DW will be in a corner which is never good . Do you have 2 sinks ?

Thank you so much for your input. Really like the suggestion about making the ceiling the same height all around; I hadn't even considered that.

I had a kitchen designer, but her drawings were so busy. The cabinet guy changed them around to something less busy, but I need to take a much closer look and consider your input. I wondered about that narrow cabinet/drawer; it appeared out of nowhere on this draft.

My dishwasher is in the island next to the sink, in the same spot it is currently. I don't have two sinks; I will have one large one basin sink in the island (where the sink is currently). I can't imagine having two sinks; the kitchen isn't that large.

I must say, my kids are grown and I don't do a lot of cooking anymore, but do want a good layout. We will probably sell in five years or so as we face retirement.

Checked his drawings again. That skinny upper and lower section next to the stove/hood is actually a slanted section (I think he is designing a pull out on the bottom). That part of the room to the right recedes about 9 inches. I have asked him why the cabinets can't be flush and his response is that the room will look roomier with the cabinets back 9" as opposed to flush with the existing kitchen cabinets.

Picture of existing which shows the existing wall. I don't want to build the wall out to meet the existing cabinets as I'm already spending a lot on the remodel. The rest of the room is open with floor to ceiling windows on the two other sides.
