I completely redid my kitchen with Ikea cabinet and am now helping a family member. What we are wondering is if anyone has done an island with all open shelving on the "work" side of the island. I was thinking of wood panels to match the wall cabinets for 3 sides of the island. On the "work" side maybe some face framing to make it look better and then some kind of shelving, racks or something to hold plates, pans, pots, etc. Obviously the wood panels would need to be attached to something also.

Maybe I am overthinking this and just cabinets without doors would be better? I thought stainless steel shelving would look better.
