I don’t have any inspiration pictures unfortunately but I can definitely start looking.

I know I don’t like the wall color with my couch which is overall making me feel stuck on how to decorate. This is all hand-me-down furniture so I’m willing to get rid of most of it!

The sofa looks beige and the wall looks gray. If you want those two colors to work together, put a couple of gray pillows on the sofa, replacing the orange and yellow. Add colorful art above the sofa (art hung at eye level) and add window treatments in a modern block pattern fabric with gray, blue, beige and white.

You might consider replacing the coffee table with a round storage ottoman of smaller size. A square-cornered coffee table in a small space is a "knee knocker" waiting to happen.

Alternately, at least temporarily, you might consider swapping locations of the coffee table and end table and use the coffee table by the window for a plant stand.

Like the idea of the bike as art to store it in plain sight but consider putting your hook high -- above head height -- and use a hook that extends out from the wall far enough so the handlebars of the bike will have room to not damage

Since you're willing to get rid of most of the furniture, I assume this includes the sectional. Then decide where you want your TV? In current position? On the accent wall? On the wall between the windows? Then your furniture can be arranged.

I would buy white paint and paint the wall behind the sofa ...
Hang art or a large mirror over the sofa ..and I would change the end table and coffee table to a glass table then look again . It's simple ...to change the color of the wall ..and then your sofa will look much better . It's a small apartment ..so heavy wood tables make it look heavy and dark ...lighten it up . It takes very little ...then live with it ..and see what else need changes ...slowly does it ..unless you have a big budget ..

Nevermind...I see that you're saying the sectional has to stay. This is your Achilles Heel. It's way too large for your space.

Change out your area rug first. Then the colors for the room with come together. Paint, throw pillows, etc. Also we will know what direction you want to take the room. transitional, traditional, etc.

Also, try turning the sofa so that the back of the large part is facing the kitchen . It's nicer to look out of the Windows ..., and may create a cozy sitting area ..that does not face the window . If you like the wood in the kitchen ..keep it as is but it makes it look small.. You can either brighten it by painting the wood white or if you paint the wood black it would go away ..rather than stick out ...it would look more modern ..and sleek , if that is what you like to accomplish ..

This an apartment, I doubt the OP can paint the kitchen cabinets

Please don't paint(if you can), those kitchen cabinets. They are beautiful!

Is the chaise part of the sectional attached? If not, removing it would open the space up. I would also paint the walls and ceiling the same shade of white to make the space brighter, and add a table or floor lamp.

The wonderful part of getting your own space and decorating that space is the ability to express yourself through your decor.

You already have experience with this through selecting your wardrobe. You know what colors make your heart sing and the style of clothing that makes you feel good about yourself.

Now it is about making your home reflect your amazing uniqueness.

I would paint all walls the same ...white ! then look at your sofa ...is it the best place for you to sit ? If you can move it around to see which is best ...gives you more wall space ...as it is your using it all up ..then minimize the wood ..glass tables are a good choice ..your painting is too high...but , after you figure out where the sofa is best ...and you have brightened your room ..live with it and decorate with only key pieces

Courtney, I agree with others that painting the walls all the same color will brighten up the space. I also agree with lowering your artwork between the windows. Do you like the colors in the artwork? If so, use those colors to decide on a colorful area rug and pillows for the sofa. Maybe even add some colored cushions to your bar stools to brighten them up a bit. I agree that a smaller, round coffee table will work better in the space. Perhaps something with a light top and metal legs to add a little lightness. This is the visual I have for your space. Since you have black chairs you can do a teal slip cover and some blush colors with a saturated green and light gray pillows or no green and to add some more depth maybe a tall narrow cabinet or mirror next to sofa

When you get your rug, pick some colors from it for accents.
