That is a ficus - commonly called Ginseng ficus. It is tropical so needs to be brought indoors in Fall. Most likely the stones you see on top are glued together. You need to remove them carefully. If you like the stone look, you can clean them up and put them back on. Next you need to inspect the soil - very likely the soil is also inappropriate too and very water retentive. So you will have to be careful with watering. Let it dry out between watering. But when you water do it well and tilt the pot to drain out the excess water. Shake the pot to remove even more excess water. Next summer you should repot it into a more appropriate mix. Look up gritty mix in the container forum to get an idea of what a good soil mix is.

Also if there is no hole at the bottom of the pot, make one. I got the same thing as you a while back and put it in bonsai soil and a pot with a hole immediately after. It was slow growing, maybe because I cleaned all the soil from the roots and that shocked the tree. Now after about 5 months it seems to be doing well and has a multitude of new leaves growing. The weird looking trunk is one tree, on top of it is grafted another type of ficus. I don't know why this is done but mine is quite elegant. Your tree is of the same configuration from what I see in your picture.
