Thanks rachann61! We recently moved into this house and observed many “mismatched” homes during our house hunt. Houses where the kitchen and the rest of the home just simply do not go together.

Oh, I love it! What did you use for the counters? We have a swinging door almost identical to yours that a previous owner had taken out and stored in the shed. We thought about reinstalling it even though it would definitely impede traffic, but seeing yours makes me reeeallly want to.

We had the discussion about door vs no door vs opening up the space to the dining room. In the end we felt we should try to keep the door and see how much we care about opening it up. An open doorway with no door and we may as well open up the wall. It’s kind of nice to be able to shut the door from time to time, but most of the time we keep it propped open. It certainly does add charm

Hi Jacqui- we did a LVT tile - not the original color/style that we picked out but our flooring people recommended this particular brand over our original choice for durability.

It looks great! Neat and very good looking. Now you should look for a piece of art for the empty wall near the doorway (I always have art in every room, including bathrooms) and perhaps a simple modern valance on a pressure rod over the window, but not hiding the great molding.

You did a fantastic job and now a finishing touch...the outlet covers on the beautiful dark backsplash should be in the same color as the tile so that the surface is not cut up.
