From what I have read, the California portion of it is accurate. And yes. It is terrifying.
I feel like the proverbial sitting duck, because if it should come here, there is no defense. I think it will happen, but I hope, after I am dead and gone.

Good grief! Trinity County has it. That is where our cabin is. I will make sure not to ever get near a rose there. That county has had a huge marijuana industry for 50+ years, I wonder if all of the people coming in to work in the illegal (and now a few legal) grows, from Mexico and all over the US, could somehow have brought it?

I have a question that some of you who have dealt with this may be able to answer - after I saw this post last night I googled RRD to see if I could find photos so I know what I should keep an eye out for. Anyway, I found an article that said if you catch it early, because it moves so slowly, you can remove the cane down to the base and then just watch to see if any other canes develop symptoms. If they do, you have to remove the rose and dispose of it properly. Is that risky to leave it? Won't it spread to other roses in your garden? What is the standard practice of the members here?

Just a note to those of you tending towards despair: as horrific as RRV is, it is not immediate death to all of your rose dreams. It litters the roadside here. Disgusting, infected bushes of multiflora are EVERYWHERE. Makes me shudder. But for 5 years, ever since I started growing roses, I have never had one in my garden infected. I’m sure it will come, but at first I was just sure that I would see that horrible growth show up all over my garden, but no. Even with an infected rose right across the street, my bushes have still been clean for years. So don’t give up! I know there are many members, such as BenT, who live in highly infected areas and lose a rose or two a year and still have beautiful, show worthy rose gardens.
