Which direction to lay planks in this space?

Hi all,

I’m installing vinyl plank flooring in one bedroom only and wanted to find out which direction would be most aesthetically pleasing given the space. The room is an 11 x 11 square (excluding the closet). In case it is relevant, the hallway outside the bedroom has tile flooring.

I’ve attached a view of the bedroom from the doorway, a photo of what it used to look like with furniture, and a diagram of the room’s general layout. The room will have a lot less stuff in it, but will have similar amounts of newer, less bulky furniture. The closet doors are mirrored, and the bed will remain on the same side of the room as shown, in case that info helps with determining plank direction.

What are your thoughts? Perpendicular to the door or parallel?

Thank you in advance for any opinions on the floor direction. I look forward to deciding which way to put them and finally getting them installed!

I would do parallel to make the room look wider rather than longer.

Which way are the floor beams running? You want to run them perpendicular to the floor beams to prevent sagging over time

The floor beams really have no bearing on vinyl plank and honestly in a square room it really doesn’t matter but I would probably do parrallell to the bed

Looks to me like the house is on a slab anyway.

I agree w/ everyone else & would run the flooring parallel to the door/ bed. Reason being is because the bed is taking up a lot of space & running the flooring parallel to it might make the room seem a bit 'longer' (yes, I know it is a square room.)

If you have tile in hall, you will have a pretty good height difference between vinyl and tile. Make sure you get a T joint for this interface to match your vinyl. I would run planks same direction as adjoining space just for some continuity. It doesn’t really matter in this m size room.
