VS Hydrangea growing /timing

I have two established VS on each side of my front steps so they get just about the same amount of sun; same age. This year one is in full bloom and the other is just starting to bud. This is the first time I have noticed this behavior and I can’t figure out why. i suspect it’s just mother nature’s wish this year. This is by far an outstanding shrub that always impresses me.

Hee, hee, hee. Mother Nature indeed. I would not complain. This way, you will have combined bloomage that will stay longer. Can you post pictures of the one that IS blooming so those of us who do not have VS can enjoy it? Thanks in advance!!! Love that magenta pink. ;o)

Did an animal come along and make a snack of the first flush of buds? I have four VS and I noticed that one didn't bud out at the same time as the others this year - upon closer inspection I could see that a deer had nipped off nearly all of the stems at some point. That one has now budded as well, but the heads are much smaller and there are fewer of them than on the three that didn't get eaten.

Great point about the deer but I’m sure they didn’t snack on this one.
