The fragrants have bloomed

I don’t have many fragrant hosta, but noticed today that they are all in bloom. I don’t know much about hosta lineage, but are these all from plantinegia? Sure I spelled that wrong.

Very nice! Yes, they all have plantaginea in their genes.

Your Stained Glass has the most beautiful coloring. Mine always seem to be just primarily light green. I'm envious of the variation of shades on yours!

I went to turn on the spigot the other day to water my outdoor containers and caught a whiff of the most beautiful perfume scent. It took me a few minutes to realize that it was the hostas nearby. I had forgotten how wonderful they smell. These are some hostas that I never kept the tag for. There is a whole row of them, just a plain old variety. Low growing, kind of non-descript. But boy do they smell good!

    Thanks for all your comments.

don, thanks for letting me know I was right about the lineage. It was a hunch.

ken, you are a wealth of information,as always, but more so this morning. I knew how to say plantAginea, just not how to spell it....and I had already downloaded the photos when I had this thought about the lineage. I was afraid to check my spelling by leaving the post for fear all my post would go poof! In true Houzz manner.

I do plan to purchase a plantaginea if they aren’t impossibly expensive and plant it next to the porch to be able to enjoy the fragrance as you mentioned in my post about my new sun bed. I had read some of the origin names.....either in HL or....... some place. I like plantaginea better than funkia, which sounds more like a disease. As far as the definition of a species ==>> I will leave that to you. I have seen the flower comparison chart before. The flower size on plantaginea is amazing!!

popmama, this’s my second SG in that spot. The other one was big and beautiful, but then two years ago, I didn’t comeback well. I waited til this year, there was almost nothing there. So I dug it out and planted the one in the picture. Hope it does well. You should post your little fragrant ones for us to see.

nicholsworth, the white blooms are beautiful, especially on Royal Wedding. True white.

BTW— my real name is Debra, but I am not able to change that in my user name, as I have exceeded the number of times I can change it——-during all those posting problems I had ,Houzz slapped my hand when I tried. Just wanted to tell folks who have commented on my posts many times.

Ken..my old setup had edit and delete "buttons"..the post had a time limit to make an edit or delete..you could edit comments for quite awhile it seemed..now I don't have "buttons"..I like the option to correct typos or change the wording right after I post it if I want to..I agree that making a new comment is better than making an edit on a comment from days ago on a long post..I could try our desktop but my phone has no edit option that I can see..I still wonder if you're using what I used to have..

it's raining and I'm wasting time on my phone..found my way to the old Gardenweb "home feed"..I have edit and delete buttons..I can edit but I wasn't able to delete a pic..a test to see if I can post pics..

yay!..I can..Houzz is driving me crazy..

I hope you can figure it out nicholsworth. I was going to say to put the curser on the bottom right of the pic and hit the backspace to delete a pic, BUT that's on my laptop. I have no idea if that would work on your phone. Worth a try.

it's so strange..I can get the old format when I Google Gardenweb forums, garden forums etc and pick a link..but the pics are blurry (a drag)..so I switch back and forth..I use Gardenweb for almost everything..reading the "home feed", create a post, to edit or delete..and then Houzz to clear notifications and see pics clearly..good thing I'm retired..it's too time consuming for most people!..just happy to have access..at one time I thought I was blocked..
