Would a garage like this be better?

The second picture looks like a small cottage attached to a garage. Eg the garage dwarfs the house, so no it’s not better. Why do you need or want a 4 car garage? Does it have to be attached to the house or could you do it in a separate structure or with the entrance on another side?

I would not have a single door if you can have a double. Just easier to park in. Most people use their garages for things other than just car storage. So I'm with your husband, bigger better. We had a 2 car single door detached 24x24 garage at our old house. It was my garage and my husbands shop. We bought an enclosed trailer to store our motorcycles and he parked his truck outside. I know lots of people who's garages are more like storage units and never have a car parked in them. Our new house has an attached three car garage. Our motorcycles are parked in the single side and my SUV is on the double. It's still his shop and his truck is still parked outside because it barely fits. We are having another 24x32 garage built at the back of our property in November. I'm sure it will be full and he will still park outside.

Our current house has a side load garage. I really like it. It looks more like house than garage and gives us a large space between our house and the neighbors yard. The second garage planned will be straight in at the back of the lot from the driveway. There are things I want to change with the exterior of the house and landscaping but this is our forever home so we have time to do them in stages.

Oof the three elevations I prefer the first one. If you have a large enough lot a side load garage would reduce the visual impact, avoiding the big mouth look.

Most people would not use all four stalls for vehicles getting regular use. If so, consider the possibilities of a normal depth double door garage and a tandem single door. You could install a wide service door to the back yard and have easy access for your outdoor items and projects if that is the primary use of the additional space.

How big is your lot? This might help in making the decision. I am of the same mindset no garage can be too big because of my hobbies, but if possible it should be incorporated in the design of the house that minimizes the appearance. If you have enough room on your lot a side loading garage gives you much better curb appeal. If I "had" to pick out of your three options I would go with 1.
