Prior to us buying this house, this was used as a dining room. However when we moved in, we added a door to the garage so it has now become more of an entry and through way. It feels like a lot of wasted space. Ideally I'd move the fish tank somewhere else. I'd also like to have a place to put keys, phones, handbags etc. I've been going for a coastal theme and the whole thing is a work in progress!

Oh, sorry! What would you do here to make the space more functional and usable? Like, add a counter?

Can you post a pic of the entire room where the fireplace is? Is the other door (in 1st pic) the front entrance. I'll be honest and say that it looks very cluttered to the eye. I think it's more all the stuff on the walls and door. Maybe you can create a true gallery wall vs the mismatched frames, etc, if you are wanting stuff on the wall above sofa table. Does that sofa need to stay? What is it directed towards?

Also, have you considered built-ins (closed storage) flanking the window? Could be double duty as a mudroom of sorts. If you keep fish tank, it could be encased in the built in.
