Patio and Tree Dilemma!

Hello! My husband and bought a cool Mid Century home with a very strange patio. The family who owned the house before us planted a tree in a planter box on top of the cement pad. The other tree was planted over grass but is still elevated. 40 years later the patio tree is huge and is busting out of the planter box and tearing up the cement. The tree is in the way of traffic flow and future furniture placement is awkward. At this point we are planning on taking down the tree. Is there something we are not thinking of design wise to incorporate the tree? Seems a shame to lose it! Here are a few things that are about to happen in the yard:

  1. We are getting 7 trees delivered to plant along the exposed yard.
  2. A studio shed will be built in the left corner.
  3. We are totally willing to change the entire patio footprint with a low deck or more concrete.
